CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) – Local U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials ensured some phony designer merchandise didn’t make it out of O’Hare this week.
A million dollars worth of designer watches, bracelets, handbags and scarves were seized at O’Hare Airport Monday night, and they were determined to be counterfeit.
CBP officials said the shipment from Thailand, destined for Oklahoma, contained phony merchandise, featuring logos like Rolex, Gucci, and Louis Vuitton. They said poor packaging and craftsmanship tipped off officers.
Last year, agents around the nation seized 24.5 million counterfeit shipments valued at nearly $3 billion, had the goods been authenticated.
