Bhopal: In a major crackdown on mobile snatchers, Ayodhya Nagar police on Tuesday claimed to have arrested two miscreants with eight stolen mobile phones and a bike, with a total worth of Rs 3.5 lakh.
One accused has a criminal record of around a dozen cases, including theft, robbery, criminal conspiracy, attempted murder, assault, and Arms Act violations.
Ayodhya Nagar SHO Mahesh Lilhare said that Police Commissioner Harinarayanchari Mishra directed strict action against mobile thieves operating in the city. Under these directives, the Ayodhya Nagar police team swiftly cracked the mobile snatching case that took place near Narela Jod, leading to the arrest of two habitual criminals. The police recovered eight stolen mobile phones and a motorcycle used in the crime, totalling Rs 3.5 lakh in value.
SHO Lilhare said that the complainant, Aditya Raj Soni, 22, a resident of Bhawani Town, Ayodhya Nagar, reported that on February 26, at around 9:45 PM, two men on a motorcycle snatched his mobile phone near Yashoda Palace, near a school, and fled. A case on charges of snatching was registered, and an investigation was initiated.
SHO Lilhare stated that a special team was immediately formed to nab the snatchers. The team conducted thorough investigations using CCTV footage, technical analysis, and ground intelligence, leading to the identification and arrest of the two accused. They were identified as Abhishek Chauhan, 20, a resident of Arjun Nagar near Maida Mill in MP Nagar, who takes contracts for whitewashing buildings and has a crime record of more than nine cases. Along with him, the second accused, Shabban, 19, a resident of the same area, was nabbed. Police seized eight mobile phones and a bike used in the crime from them. The police are further investigating their involvement in other snatching cases in the city.
