While catwalks were once the place to look for new beauty inspo, the go-to birthplace of modern makeup is none other than TikTok. Trouble is, completing a Rubik’s cube seems easier than recreating the majority of the looks you’ll come across on the Gen Z-loved platform.
That’s why we’ve waded through the latest videos circulating on the site and picked out the ones that a) don’t require a whole new kit, and b) are easy enough to copy whether you’re a beginner girlie or makeup whiz kid. Here are the five easiest TikTok makeup looks to recreate for autumn.
1. Pumpkin spice makeup
The first orange leaf is usually the sign we are waiting for to add that dash of pumpkin spice into our coffees, but this autumn has called for an upgrade as pumpkin spice has become the inspiration for one of the most trending makeup looks of the season.
With 7.2 million views on TikTok, the #pumpkinspicemakeup has set us all on the quest to achieve that perfect earthy, warm glow. As the name suggests, the look mainly draws from the warm shades of brown, bronze and orange that celebrate the essence of pumpkin and cinnamon, at times complimented with a pop of deep red or bright orange either on the eyes or lips. As a largely monochromatic look where your eyeshadow, eyeliner, bronzer, highlighter and lipstick fall within the range of a similar color palette, it is simple to achieve and sits well on a wide range of skin tones, making it the perfect go-to look this season.
Taylor Swift seems to be the most recent celebrity to sport the look with shimmery orange eyeshadow paired with her signature red lips, following the likes of Gigi Hadid, Florence Pugh, Selena Gomez.
2. Latte makeup
Hailed as the internet’s favourite look to walk into autumn with, latte makeup is next on the list of TikTok trends to try as the browns and golds of the season set in. This look is about incorporating tones like caramel, nude, muted golds, warm browns, bronzes or even a dash of maroon to create a look that is reminiscent of the warmth of a latte.
This look was christened with the iconic name by beauty content creator Rachel Rigler after she posted a tutorial on how to get this “warm, bronzy, milky and effortless” look as she called it.
Having gained over 405.9 million views on TikTok, this look seems to have brought two thriving communities together – coffee lovers and makeup enthusiasts, and the crossover has not disappointed. A number of creative variations have sprung up following the original look, such as espresso makeup and iced latte makeup depending on the desired intensity of the look and the occasion you are prepping for.
While the espresso makeup, which is characterised by darker eye makeup, might be more suited for a night out, the iced latte look, that comes with a bit of shimmer over the eyes, can be paired with outfits that fall within lighter or neutral shades.
3. Cherry red cola
This autumn is here to paint the town Cherry red as the shade seems to have taken over as the color to have on eyes, lips and cheeks this season. Those going for cherry red on eyes seem to favour a smokey red eyeshadow or a bright red liner to carry the look.
Most of the trend is focused on bold lip tints which would be just the thing to elevate your autumn wardrobe. The Dolce & Gabbana Fall/Winter 2023/24 runways were a trailblazer for this trend as fiery red lips seemed to be a staple with every fit.
However, the niche look that broke the internet was the ‘cherry cola lips’ which was later picked up by celebrities like Kylie Jenner and Kendall Jenner. Cherry cola lips draws from the deep colours of the cherry cola soda as explained by make-up artist Yasmin Salmon and it is achieved by combining reds and browns with a glossy finish, while also letting the natural shade of your lips shine through.
As autumn settles in and darker colors are making a comeback, beauty influencer Monica Ravichandran has also dropped a tutorial on how rock cherry cola lips for the brown skinned girlies.
4. Angry girl make up
Also dubbed as the ‘dark feminine aesthetic’, this look is a whole vibe that comes with sharp brows, red lips and a signature TikTok audio as well. Summoning up siren eyes with bold liners and smokey eye shadows, angry girl makeup is another trend that has taken TikTok by storm with almost 2.4 million views.
The trend is also becoming a platform for women to post GRWM videos featuring the look while also sharing experiences or things that made them angry. Therefore, this trend is much more than just looking angry or emulating the makeup looks of dark female characters. Be it your current mood or fashion choice, this look could be the saving grace for another autumn day when you are down with the patriarchy, while also looking good hustling.
To add to the appeal, the fact that Olivia Rodrigo is officially in her ‘vampire’ era with the latest single and her red, red lips is only making the angry girl aesthetic look much hotter this season.
5. Spider lashes
If you thought the obsession with lashes was finally over, think again because long, wispy lashes seem to be all the rage on TikTok with the #spiderlashes amassing over 90.6 million views.
It is also dubbed ‘Manga lashes’ as the look resembles the dramatic eyelashes of Japanese Manga and Anime characters where wispy lashes fan out towards the ends. Beauty content creator and founder of Sacheu Beauty, Sarah Cheung dropped her tutorial on how to get the perfect spidery lashes.
The look is also branching out into asymmetrical lashes which looked gorgeous on Iris Law. Zendaya and Anna Taylor-Joy are among other celebrities who have rocked the look. With Halloween just around the corner, this trend could be just the oomph your make up routine needed.
