As designer bags are getting more expensive, there are plenty of hacks for getting more affordable ones, from buying realistic dupes to shopping secondhand.
One TikTok accessory influencer figured out the ultimate way to get a Prada bag for under $200 and revealed the hack to her followers.
Cindy, based in Atlanta, Georgia, who jokingly calls herself a ‘stay-at-home bag lady,’ shared how to get a ‘Prada bag for less than 2 bills,’ which received more than 10,000 likes.
‘Here’s how to get a Prada bag for under $200,’ she announced, before showing how she turned a snazzy cosmetic case from the luxury brand into a sleek clutch.
The bag expert then explained that the gift set usually retailed for $250, but was on sale for about $190 when she bought it.
‘It comes in this sleek metallic case with a built-in mirror,’ Cindy said, before showing off the interior, which houses one refillable lipstick container with full-size separate cartridges.
Cindy goes on to explain ‘the best part’ is that the insert is removable, ‘so you can throw in your essentials and wear it as a chic Prada clutch.’
Cindy warned that it would definitely sell out – and she was correct, as it is currently unavailable online at Nordstrom and on the Prada website, where it could potentially be restocked.
Despite her relatively inexpensive hack for getting a Prada bag, which can retail for anywhere from $795 for a small version of the popular nylon option to $8,500 for more elaborate offerings, some commenters had questions.
‘I feel like these things usually look super cheap IRL (in real life). A secondhand bag would be way more worth it,’ one person replied.
Another wrote ‘Fingerprints will go crazy’ about the mirrored finish.
Some thought the ‘clutch’ should be used for other things entirely.
‘I saw someone get these engraved for gifts and it was really cute!’ one commenter wrote.
Others praised her sustainability, with one person commenting, ‘Reduce, reuse, recycle. It’s the green thing to do,’ as she responded, ‘I’m an environmentalist.’
One woman joked, ‘Do I need this? No. Will I get it anyway? Yes.’
Another woman warned that the brand would ‘see this and sell them for 1k by the end of the year.’
Some praised her ingenuity, as many planned to snap it up during the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale.
‘This looks like such a nice quality box, love the idea of it as a clutch,’ one wrote.
Others planned on adding chain attachments to make it into a crossbody bag.
She wasn’t the only influencer in awe of the lipstick clutch turned purse – it took over TikTok as creators showed off how they fit their phones and of course, Prada lipstick, into the sleek container.
