In what has to be another pretty good sign that AEW will be staying with Warner Bros Discovery when their existing media rights deal expires at the end of this year, Tony Khan’s company took part in a crossover event with WBD’s Adult Swim yesterday (July 25) at San Diego Comic-Con.
Battle for the Booty culminated in Orange Cassidy & Willow Nightingale beating Taya Valkyrie & Johnny TV for the Adult Swim Booty title (with an assist from Rick and Summer of Rick & Morty fame; each team defeated indie wrestlers cosplaying as Adult Swim characters earlier in the show to reach the main event).
But before the final Booty Battle, TK himself was out to announce a couple matches for Saturday night involving the participants.
Perhaps because he was too busy concentrating on emphasizing the last syllable of words (Tony’s just so excited to be working with Warner Bros Discov-ERY in San Die-GO), Khan doesn’t tell us if Nightingale’s match with Deonna Purrazzo will be for Willow’s CMLL Women’s belt, another eliminator, or just a plain old non-title match. We’re guessing it’s not for the championship, since on Wednesday’s Dynamite AEW set-up a different eliminator for Nightingale on next week’s show — that one against her former friend Kris Statlander.
We’ll see how that all shakes out. For now, we have the following announced for July 27 in Arlington, Texas:
Collision
• Orange Cassidy vs. Johnny TV
• FTR in action
Battle of the Belts XI
• Toni Storm (c) vs. Taya Valkyrie in an AEW Women’s World championship eliminator match
• Undisputed Kingdom vs. TBD (Dark Order or Dustin Rhodes & the Von Erichs) for the vacant ROH World Six-Man titles
• CMLL Women’s champ Willow Nightingale vs. Deonna Purrazzo
