The Best of Vancouver’s Best of Vancouver: Classy Claws’ Bee Lalli |

We asked some of this year’s Best of Vancouver winners to give us their own best of Vancouver lists. So meta! But not capital-M Meta—we’re mad at that Meta.

There are nails, and then there are *nails*—and Classy Claws is firmly in the business of the latter. Founded by nail art pioneer Bee Lalli, Classy Claws is a salon for those who like things a little (read: a lot) extra. Specializing in extravagant and wildly detailed nail art, Classy Claws does everything from expertly-placed jewels to intricately-painted images (want Jughead from the Archie Comics on your thumb? They can do it!). Which is probably why this East Hastings spot was voted as the top nail salon in Vancouver in this year’s Best of Vancouver awards. I’ll buy a coffee for the first person to get a claw painted with the Straight’s mascot Wuxtry.

Best public artwork

All of the Main Street murals. Driving out of downtown and seeing the murals just sparks joy while being stuck in traffic.

Best local artist

Typography and mural artist Carly Fairbank for her use of clean lines and vibrant colours. Also, @kaiju.ink and her dog tattoos! I love how she really brings her tattoos to life. I want my dog tatted on me!

Best Vancouverite

David Katz from Plastic Bank. I saw him speak on a panel and will never forget the presence and power he carried so humbly. He’s a wealth of knowledge and truly could change the world.

Best live music venue

The Commodore Ballroom—just a great space that allows freedom for how you want to experience a show. Whether you want to socialize and move around, be in the mosh pit, or hang out by the bar, it’s nice to not be stuck in one spot for the whole show.

Best place to get a haircut

For girls: Maxfield Palmer; he’s opening his first shop called High Pony! For guys: Aldrich Miranda (@catchafade__).

Best vintage shop

F as in Frank. I love the extension of the brand that has flourished into a worldwide name: Frankie Collective by Vancouverite Sara Gourlay.

Best place to crow-watch

Everett Crowley Park [near Champlain Heights]; I am a dog person, and this place is great because you’re surrounded by nature and you can bring your dog. It’s a beautiful dog park that provides a little bit of everything: you can walk through trails, take a visit to the little creek, check out some of the viewpoints, or head to one of the meadows to let your dog socialize.
