I would say nail art is really important to me because it’s so personalized.
Nail art can be used for people that like minimalist nails and for people that like having a lot of things going on, which I personally really like. I started doing nails during the pandemic, and that was a time when nail art was a really big thing on social media. I remember back then I would do more swirly designs, and I focused on staying minimal. Now, I think 3-D art is a big thing.
I think my nail art is unique because there’s a lot of concepts I put together. If I’m doing Chrome, I would pair it with 3-D nail art. I would also include charms, which I feel like hasn’t really been a big thing recently. I also tried making my own charms, just so people are able to kind of personalize their nails a little bit more.
I usually trust my clients, but one time my client was my sister. She wanted green and purple nails, and it was My Melody and Kuromi themed. I told her that I didn’t recommend it and that it wouldn’t look how she wanted it. And then I told her, ‘You know what? It’s your nails. I will trust you. It’s your vision.’ I did it for her, and she immediately wanted me to change it. We kept laughing about it, because it was a really bad vision.
My favorite sets are where you have a 3-D lotus flower on it, and you have to make it out of a mold and customize the colors, which I thought was really cool. I also show my sister’s birthday nails whenever people ask for an inspo pic of what I’ve done. It had a lot of basic trends like pearls and bow charms, and it was one of the first sets I did and I’m the most proud of it.
For the people that want to get into it, practice a lot, and don’t be undetermined. When I first started, it was really bad. I was like “Who let me have these nails?” But the more practice you do, the easier it gets. Also just asking and searching videos on how to do certain styles. I used to guess how to do it, and it never really turned out right.
In the future, I want to go into business for school, so I feel like starting my own nail business was a really good thing that I did in high school. I want to keep it as a side hobby, because I know in college, a lot of people are also going to want their nails done, and I know I’m going to be that broke college student.
