Boring Street Style Is The Best Street Style

The best street style is not the sheerest. It does not involve green hair. Nor matching head to toe with a fellow fashion type. It is quiet, considered, curated – boring, even. While the peacocks who throw themselves into the biannual ready-to-wear circus might not notice the simple tailoring that blends into the background, the magpies among us live for the cut of a well-tailored shirt, a trouser hem that falls just so, or the perfect size of a subtle gold hoop earring. It is the details that matter – even if they don’t make the splashiest photo opps.

The international spring/summer 2025 shows balanced a back-to-school vibe with one last salute to the sunshine (and the chance to show off the freckly spoils of one’s holidays). Transitional knits jostled for attention next to big knickers (just at the Gucci show?), blazers struggled to compete with whispers of lingerie-inspired dresses, and charm-laden bags tried their hardest to jangle sensible top-handle styles out of frame in front of Mr Street Peeper’s lens. But, for the dedicated scrollers, who treat September’s street-style downloads as an opportunity to window shop the chicest autumn jackets, there are muted treasures to be found among the cacophony of print.
