Donald Trump is no stranger to triggering bizarre moments that stir up the internet, and eventually end up becoming viral meme material. However, this time, the President-elect of the United States of America is refusing to wait till his presidency officially starts next year. A video, that recently went viral, showed the next President of the US playfully asking a young girl if he could ‘buy’ her hair for ‘millions’, which inevitably caused jarring reactions online. While some critics tied the moment to his controversial past, others dismissed it as harmless banter.
What happened?
In the bizarre video, Donald Trump was seen driving a buggy at the Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach. The President-elect then approached a Black girl and commented on her curly brown hair and said, “Oh, I love that girl… I love that hair. I want her hair!” He went on to tell the Black girl he wanted to “buy” her hair for “millions”. He asked, “Can I buy your hair? I’ll pay you millions for that.”
The girl was seen responding to the President-elect by saying, “I voted for you.” To which, Trump replied, “I voted for you too.”
In the video, Trump was seen sporting a ‘Make America Great Again’ aka MAGA cap in red. He completed his look with a matching red jacket. The 78-year-old also asked the young Black girl to join him on his golf cart for a photo.
The reactions:
The viral video has already gained nearabout 6 million views and has sparked justified outrage on social media. It attracted several comments from users on social media platform X.
One user wrote, “Slavemaster talk,” while another said, “He doesn’t understand how buying black girls may be a bad look because in his circles, buying black women is the norm.”
Another user wrote, “Hey Trump, even you can’t just buy Black children.”
Someone else said, “This is so creepy and weird. A grown man yells out that he wants buy a young girl’s hair. That’s weird, joking or not.”
One user remarked, “You know he’s not helping with the value concern that he’s long been known as a (potential) child predator. I wouldn’t trust Trump with my daughter because he’s an adjudicated rapist and 32+ time credibly accused sexual predator,” while another said, “I can’t take another 4 years of this.”
However, some people chose to see ‘humour’ in Trump’s comment, and said, “Come on! People say that to kids to be nice! People overreacting! If it was someone else you would say that is cute and the girl has nice hair.” Someone also did not understand the ‘problem’ with the clipping and asked, “Okay? He complimented her hair so what!”
