What are Aura Nails? A Look At The Manicure Trend To Try

No one is suggesting a return to full-colour nail art, but we’re ready for a little more fun when it comes to manicures.

Of course there’s a time and a place for the minimalist ‘quiet luxury’ manicure – clean, refined, ‘barely there’ nails finished with transparent polish. But Aura nails offers away to bring back a gentle glow of colour to our tips.

What are Aura Nails?

Aura nails are inspired, or mimic the appearance of aura – spiritual, colorful energy fields believed to surround individuals.

Aura nails typically feature a diffused, glowing effect with a central color that gradually blends into a different hue, creating a radiant, halo-like appearance.

Imagine the slightly transitory nature of a mood ring and you’ll get the idea. If you’re not big on colour, you can still get the effect with a subtle pink or peach or soft shimmering hues.

The trend falls inline with Pinterest’s recent prediction auras will play a big part in beauty this year.

In its popular annual Pinterest Predicts report, the virtual pinboard site analyses its recent search data to predict what will have an impact in the coming year.

‘Aura beauty’ was top of the list, with the site explaining an ethereal and otherworldly look will be huge, including luminous skin, duo-chome effects and slightly unexpected hues like lilac that are chosen according to your mood and individuality. It’s yet another way to define your personality and identity, plus, it simply looks cool.

To create aura nails, professional artists create a gradient choosing a variation of intensities of one or two colours. The shades are often applied using an airbrush so there is a seamless transition of hues.

To DIY, try painting nails one colour and using a small makeup sponge to stipple on another colour in the center of the nail.
