Jujutsu Kaisen season 2 episode 8 review: The Shibuya incident goes from zero to one hundred really quickly, and then leaves us with some questions for the next episode to answer.
I still can’t get over how awesome the new intro song is. Anyway.
“The Shibuya Incident” just landed and boy, it’s like a roller coaster that goes up really, really high… and then drops you all the way down into a cursed abyss, in a good way.
With the last episode, “The Evening Festival”, focusing on Mechamaru fighting Mahijto for the most part, and shifting to a disturbing scene in Shibuya, episode 8 picks up right where 7 left off.
Let’s talk about the episode, shall we?
THERE WILL BE SPOILERS BELOW!
Jujutsu Kaisen season 2 episode 8 review: The Shibuya Incident
We start with our guy Yuji not happy about letting Mr. Gorgeous Gojo, the Sorcerer Supreme (okay, wrong franchise), handle his part of the mission alone, complaining that it wasn’t a good call. Yuji tags along with Ui Ui and Mei Mei, and honestly, who wouldn’t second-guess leaving Satoru alone? I know I for sure wouldn’t in case he needed extra hugs for encouragement an extra set of cursed abilities.
As if getting a text from an ex, Mei Mei is not pleased to get a call with news that another mysterious veil has dropped around Meiji Shrine Station. They put on their hero pants and run over to do their part. But, be still our hearts, Gojo is already down there having a three-way showdown with Jogo, Hanami, and Choso in a subway that is what I would imagine to be Hell’s waiting room.
While Gojo is busy being pretty with shenanigans in the Shibuya station platform, Mei Mei, Ui Ui, and Yuji have their own set of disturbing problems to deal with – innocent humans are running scared, being served as the cursed spirit “special of the day,” and something or someone is pulling all the strings from the shadows.
Mei Mei, never one to be out-strategized, attempts to send a crow to do some James Bond-style recon, only for it to be taken out of the chessboard as well. Mei Mei then turns to Yuji and basically asks, “Hey, wanna bust some big baddie or squash a bunch of little baddies?”
In true Yuji style, he says the Jujutsu Kaisen equivalent of “Why not both?”

FIGHT SCENES!
Yuji faces off against a very clever locust-cursed spirit, and he does not hold anything back. He dodges, he strikes, and he makes that cursed spirit wish it had stayed in its little cursed spirit bed that morning. Short story much, much shorter and predictable, Yuji wins. Mei Mei even gives Yuji a verbal gold star.
This is where things start to go a little crazy. Cut to Gojo facing off against Jogo (wow, their names are similar) and company, who decide that their new favorite pastime is killing innocent and regular human beings who just happen to be at the wrong place at the wrong time. And this is where we see Gojo blessing us with his immaculately gorgeous pair of eyeballs removing his blindfold and uttering hero lines – which means a big showdown is bound to follow.
As the episode comes to a close, we learn through a creepy flashback of Getou and Jogo chatting in a kids’ playground of all places, and we learn that there’s a 20-minute window to whatever nastiness Getou is planning. He’s got plans regarding a Prison Realm coming up, and… you just know it’s not gonna be good.
Studio Mappa does it again with this latest installment in the Jujutsu Kaisen series.
We end with a few more questions than answers, but that’s how Jujutsu Kaisen keeps us hooked. The stage is set for an epic showdown with Gojo in the spotlight. And let’s be real when Gojo is involved, you know it’s gonna be good.
