Jennifer Lopez wore this polarising nail trend – and made it actually wearable thanks to a twist

Some nail trends will inevitably divide opinion, especially when it comes to traditionally unpopular colours.

While brown nail polish took a good while for everyone to warm up to, it’s now a staple in the autumn nail arsenal, with Hailey Bieber’s recent hot chocolate nails being a prime example of this and proving that sometimes the most controversial nail colours can be just as cool as the classics.

And now, Jennifer Lopez is the latest celeb to jump on the unexpected nail shade trend. Showcasing light grey nails, J.Lo manages to breathe life into what would otherwise be deemed a drab and uninspiring shade – and now we know exactly how she managed it.

When we think of grey for nails, we’d be more likely to favour a greyish blue or dark anthracite rather than this light grey shade. But we’re officially converted after seeing J.Lo bucking trends with this lighter shade that we tend to steer clear of for fear of looking washed out.

When it comes to the nail shape, J.Lo stayed true to her usual, opting for an angular shape that narrowed towards the top.

Here’s what makes the sweater weather manicure so special

The fear with using a grey nail polish is that it will look cold and dull, but contrary to that J.Lo’s nails look fresh and sleek. So just how did she achieve this look?

A touch of beige was added to the colder grey shade, immediately introducing warmth to create a taupe finish.

Another benefit of this beige-grey mix is that the colour goes brilliantly with both silver and gold jewellery, flattering the complexion and pairing perfectly with our favourite autumn jumpers.
