Why It’s Time To Try Red Blush, No Matter Your Skin Tone

It’s no coincidence that the color red is making a comeback. Red is the color most familiar to the skin, which already emits a reddish pink hue when flushed, no matter how light or deep your skin, or how warm and cool your undertone. Makeup artist Kasey Spickard explained to Bustle, “Red blush is the easiest way to create a perfect natural flush on the skin. It mimics the body’s natural response to sun or heat.” That means the more red blush, the better. Unlike other shades of blush, like pink, brown, and even purple, it’s almost impossible to go wrong with red.

Before getting started, it’s essential to find the right red blush for you. Per NYLON, identifying the look you’re going for matters more than skin tone, as red will naturally and effortlessly blend into any shade of skin. For example, if you’re going for a matte look, a fluffy and sun-kissed look pairs best, like NARS’ Blush in Exhibit A ($30). If you’re a fan of matching cheeks with lips, Pixi By Petra’s On The Glow Blush in Ruby ($18) is a glowy balm that can be applied on both the cheeks and lips, so you’re able to bring a monochromatic look to the face. Lastly, if you’re committed to the cream blush look, ELF Cosmetic’s Putty Blush in Caribbean ($7) is perfect for a hydrated and glowy look.
