CHESTER, W.Va. – The city’s municipal building will be a busy place Saturday, Oct. 21, hosting events for both young and old.

Between the hours of 1 and 5 p.m., the Chester Parks Board will hold its ticket auction inside the multi-purpose room and gym area of the building, located at 600 Indiana Ave., while a local resource center will host its inaugural Trunk or Treat event outside in the parking lot.

According to Sue Hineman, auction organizer, doors will be open for that event at noon. Tickets can be purchased for $1 each or in bundles of 15 for $5 or 40 for $10. Patrons will have more than the 120 auction lots to bid on.

Most lots, which include bicycles and smart televisions, will require multiple tickets. Drones, remote controlled vehicles, dolls and even gift cards for favorite establishments will be among the booty offered.

Hineman said each particular auction item has an assigned number of tickets necessary to participate in the auction. After the patron puts in that specific number of tickets, a winner is drawn.

Electronic devices, like a drone and a Smart TV; bicycles; toys; gift cards and gift baskets are some of the lots scheduled for the Chester Park Board’s ticket auction benefit Oct. 21. Proceeds from the event will go toward the city park’s spring project, an inclusive playground area. For information contact Sue Hineman at 330-843-3215. (Special to The Review/Stephanie Ujhelyi)

Food concessions also will be available for purchase.

She added that all proceeds will benefit city park’s spring project, which is expansion of its Imagination Station for special needs to include inclusive sensory area.

In the parking lot, between the hours of 5 and 7 p.m., HealthWays Resource Center will host its inaugural “Say Boo To Drugs” trunk or treat. According to Emily Dodds, event coordinator, Healthways is an initiative that assists Northern Hancock County residents with the prevention, treatment and recovery efforts related to individuals and families affected by substance abuse.

The Chester Park Board will not hold its Festival of Trees this year, which had become an annual event. Hineman said they will instead host a craft show from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 18, in the Badgley Pavilion near the entrance of Chester City Park. Vendor spots are still available at the event for $25. More information can be obtained by calling Hineman at 330-843-3215.
