There is no better place to get your visual ASMR fix than Betina Goldstein’s Instagram. The work of LA’s hottest manicurist, Goldstein’s feed has something for everyone – if you like clean, minimal nail looks (but with a twist), you’ll find them here. But she’s also your girl if you like to see nail “art” in its purest form, with a back catalogue that includes everything from “dirty martini nails”, embellished with miniature olives, to hand-sculpted and painted mackerel. Nail art? Nail masterpieces, more like.
She also counts some of the world’s most famous actors as her clients, from Margot Robbie and Zoë Kravitz to Camila Morrone, Lily James and Jodie Comer, so she knows a thing or two about creating nail looks that dazzle on the red carpet, too. She began her career in New York in 2011 – when, she says, the wildest manicure brief she’d get on fashion shoots was a rather tepid “chipped black nail”. She began teaching herself how to do nail art in 2014 and posted the results on Instagram, as a portfolio for herself. Soon after, magazines began reposting her work, and her account blew up. She now has 404k followers.
What inspires her nail art
“I love an out-of-the-box design – I don’t really know where it comes from. I have these random ideas and then figure out how I can make them into a 3D shape on the nail,” she tells me over the phone. “This is kind of weird but the other day I took my socks off and threw them on the floor – when I went to pick them up, I realised I loved the composition of them and decided to make them into a nail look.” You can see the finished result below – cool, no?
