First Quan Chi Mortal Kombat 1 trailer likely coming this weekend as Ed Boon shares new teaser footage featuring a deadly reference

Mortal Kombat 1 fans might not have to wait much longer to see the next big DLC character for the game. Classic sorcerer character Quan Chi is making his return as the next additional combatant set to join the game via the Kombat Pack, and based on a new teaser from Mortal Kombat series co-creator Ed Boon, we may be seeing Quan Chi in action for the first time as soon as this weekend.

Boon shared a very quick bit of footage featuring a pre-fight interaction between Quan Chi and Shang Tsung. According to Boon, we’ll want to keep our eyes on the CCXP event going on in Brazil right now.

Accompanying the footage, all Boon wrote with the tweet was, “CCXP in Brazil should be fun.” He also included the Mortal Kombat 1 hashtag in case it wasn’t already clear enough that he’s referring to something related to the game.

If you’re familiar with Boon’s history of hints, then you can likely quickly decipher what this teaser is getting at. Plain and simple, it’s sounding like we’ll be seeing a Quan Chi gameplay trailer this weekend at CCXP.

Mortal Kombat 1 has already seen the addition of Invincible’s Omni-Man as not only the game’s first DLC character, but also its first guest character to be released. Following him shortly after was the first DLC Kameo Fighter, Tremor, and both are currently available for everyone to purchase.

Back in October, NetherRealm Studios — the folks behind Mortal Kombat 1 — shared a timeline for when each of the game’s DLC characters will be released. Quan Chi and DC Comics’ Peacemaker are next in line and are both listed as Winter 2023/2024, Ermac and The Boys’ Homelander are slated for Spring 2024, and Takeda Takahashi won’t make his way in until Summer 2024.

With that being said, it looks like Quan Chi is almost assuredly the next DLC character in line to be added to the game.

As many fans know, Quan Chi and Shang Tsung acted as the two big bosses in Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance, which saw its initial release on November 16, 2002. The “Deadly Alliance” refers to the teaming up of the two baddies, and the new Mortal Kombat 1 teaser unabashedly references the game and the time when these two villains worked together.

In their pre-fight clash, Shang Tsung tells Quan Chi that he hoped that their alliance would be more… “deadly.” Quan Chi simply laughs in response.

CCXP is a large scale comic book convention/event that’s taking place in Sao Paulo, Brazil. According to the About Us section on the event’s website, it is also a large festival where major studios bring exclusive content to fans.

One of the major exhibitors at CCXP this year is Warner Bros., and with NetherRealm Studios and Mortal Kombat existing under the Warner Bros. Games umbrella, we can easily see why the folks behind the game have planned an announcement for the event.

Warner Bros. will be holding several panels at the event on Sunday, December 3, and though we don’t have an exact time for when Boon will be making an appearance, the CCXP official website states that he is scheduled to be in attendance on that same Sunday. Make sure to stay tuned here on EventHubs this weekend for all of the latest Mortal Kombat 1 reveals and coverage.
