Lionel Messi has been spotted hitting the gym with his wife’s personal trainer, who’s famous for his glute exercises, a little over two months before the start of the 2024 MLS season.

The 36-year-old, Argentine was filmed by his spouse of six years, Antonela, at a gym, doing pull-ups with her physical therapist, Bret Contreras, a.k.a ‘The Glute Guy’.

‘Chin ups,’ she captioned her Instagram story on Monday morning, showing off her husband with a dip belt with a weight in between his legs.

Contreras, who holds a PhD and CSCS, is based in Miami.

Antonela has previously taken snaps from inside his gym with fellow Inter Miami wag Elena Galera, the wife of Messi’s teammate and close friend, Sergio Busquets. Both women have been keeping fit at Contreras’ ‘Glute Lab’ since moving to the U.S.

Conteras also has a website called ‘Booty by Bret’ where he offers advice on how to ‘build your booty’ with as little as three hours work a week.

His own Instagram and business account, @BootybyBretofficial, is also packed full with advice for people to keep in top shape.

Messi, who won his record-eighth Ballon d’Or in October, described the MLS as a ‘minor league’, earlier this month, in an interview in his home country of Argentina pertaining to his availability for the 2026 World Cup.

Messi, 36, scored 11 goals in 14 games for Inter Miami since joining the Herons mid-season

The 2022 World Cup winner joined Inter Miami right in the middle of the 2023 MLS season, immediately sparking the club to a Leagues Cup championship.

He scored 11 goals in 14 games, taking the Herons onto a 12-game winning streak.

Messi also won the Leagues Cup with Miami, and drew huge crowds wherever he suited up, boosting the MLS’ average for attendance at games.

Inter Miami announced their first preseason game ahead of the 2024 MLS season on the last day of November, ending speculation over a possible friendly vs. Cristiano Ronaldos’ Al Nassr, of the Saudi Pro League.
