At 66, Denise Austin Shares How to Get a ‘Lifted Booty’ and ‘Toned Back’ in Video

  • Denise Austin, 66, just shared her “favorite exercise” for achieving a “toned back” and “lifted booty.”
  • Austin says “you get more bang for your buck” with “compound moves” like the one she demonstrates.
  • The exercise, which is intensified with dumbbells, combines a deadlift and a row.

If you’ve ever wondered how to get more toned glutes or a stronger back, fitness pro Denise Austin has you covered. The 66-year-old is always posting easy workout moves for women over 50, and this time she’s sharing her “favorite,” “compound” movement that combines a back exercise with a butt exercise.

“Do you want a lifted booty and a nice toned back? Well, here’s my favorite exercise,” Austin said in a recent Instagram video. “Do this and you will see results.” She captioned the post: “#MotivationMonday with another compound move! I love compound moves because you get more bang for your buck! This one works the hamstrings, booty, and back—all in one!”

Austin explained how to do the move: “Grab some dumbbells, while keeping your back straight slide the dumbbells down the front of your legs, pause, and row the weights back, squeezing your shoulder blades together.” Austin continued in the caption, “Then stand up and squeeze your buttocks…remember if you don’t squeeze it, no one else will!! Xoxo”

In the video, Austin demonstrated the compound exercise while standing on a yellow yoga mat, holding a pair of matching hand weights. Here’s exactly how to do the move:

  1. First, perform a deadlift by standing with feet shoulder-width apart, holding weights in front of the thighs before slowly bringing the weights toward the feet by pushing the hips back.
  2. Next, add a row into the movement: Before finishing the deadlift, bring the weights up next to the ribcage while sending elbows up toward the ceiling, “squeezing the shoulder blades.”
  3. To finish, extend the arms back toward the feet before coming back up to a standing position in a swift, controlled motion while squeezing the glutes.

As usual, fans loved Austin’s informative video. “You look amazing thanks for these tips ✨” one fan wrote. “I agree. Compound exercises are way better, like chin-ups and dips,” another wrote. “I have your videos! I’ve always loved your workouts ❤️” another chimed in.

Austin consistently posts a variety of workout videos for her fans to follow at home, and we love that she includes options with and without weights. While some prefer bodyweight movements, there are so many benefits of lifting weights, even light weights.

“Every decade, starting in your mid-30s, you lose a percentage of muscle, which affects your metabolism, balance, and ability to brace yourself in the event of an injury,” Larysa DiDio, a certified personal trainer previously told Prevention. “By weight training, you build more muscle to protect your body against injury.” Additional benefits of lifting weights include burning more calories, strengthening bones, and improvement of posture.

From Austin’s easy cardio moves to her quick pilates workouts, it’s clear that the fitness guru is committed to motivating her audience to lead healthy, happy lifestyles. In fact, Austin previously told Prevention that her “focus” is “to help women my age and over 50,” feel their best. “I have really enjoyed the changes and growing with my people and growing with my fans that have stayed with me for 35 years. It’s so fun,” she explained.

We can’t wait to see what fun, effective fitness videos Austin will share next!
