No ‘Bad Blood’: NOLA Mardi Gras krewe pokes fun at Taylor Swift in not-so-graceful parody

Taylor Swift ridiculed in Krewe d’Etat Mardi Gras parade

It was bound to happen. Considering Taylor Swift’s immeasurable fame, and the inescapable media devotion to her romance with football star Travis Kelce, some satirical Carnival krewe was sure to poke fun at the superstar before the season ended.

And, on Friday night, the sardonic Krewe d’Etat certainly did.

A paper mache sculpture of Swift rising from a treasure chest of pirate’s doubloons stood on the bow of a float titled “Golden Booty.” The float was painted with the image of young fans wailing as dollars flitted through the air, falling from “mom and dad’s” credit card.

The Krewe d’Etat dance troupe costumed as ‘Swifties,’ Taylor Swift’s most devoted fans

But that wasn’t the worst of the krewe’s irreverence. A troupe of middle-aged male dancers had donned ill-fitting blonde wigs in imitation of Swifties—the singer’s most devoted fans. Graceful, they were not.

The T-shirts that the faux Swifties wore were emblazoned with the Kansas City Chiefs football team logo Kelce’s number, 87.

The d’Etat dancers—who choose a new satiric topic each year—were accompanied by attendants carrying large photo cut-outs of Swift’s former boyfriends, her detractor Kanye West, Kim Kardashian, and the faces of cats. In the background blared the breakup song “Bad Blood.”
