“I’m a makeup minimalist, so for me to add an extra step it has to be worth it,” Brown said. “And The Neutralizer Pencil definitely is. It makes me look less tired and brighter, so it’s always in my kit for when I need it.”

The innovative color-correcting pencils are formulated with moisturizing ingredients like shea butter and castor oil for a smooth, creamy application that blends easily into the skin. Available in nine shades, there’s an option for a variety of concerns.

“The Neutralizer Pencil brightens and color corrects darkness around the eyes for extra tired days,” she captioned a recent Instagram video. “This creamy yet dense concealer is formulated with a clear base for no chalky undertones.”

In the video, Brown explained that using The Neutralizer Pencil “makes a big difference” in concealing dark circles. “Everyone has darkness under the eyes. We just have different kinds of darkness and different places of darkness,” she said. “The neutralizer pencils are there to brighten to make you look rested and not tired.”

With varying shades of pink or peach, the pencil helps to “cancel” discoloration around the eyes before you apply concealer over top. “Honestly, it’s a game changer,” Brown said.

Below, we break down Brown’s three steps for using the color-correcting product for bright, even under eyes:

Step one: Eye cream

Before applying makeup, it’s important to focus on skincare. “The trick is to only use this much,” Brown explained while showing a pea-sized amount of The Eye Cream on her fingertip before tapping the product onto the model’s face with her finger. “The reason I start with the eye cream is so your pencils blend effortlessly.”

Step two: The neutralizer pencil

After bringing moisture back to your under-eyes, apply the color corrector. Brown demonstrated the application by applying The Neutralizer Pencil “under the eyes, close to the lashes.” She said her “trick” for application “is to look where you’re dark,” and focus the product there.

“If there’s discoloration you might see some black, some purple, some green—this will correct it,” Brown explained. “And before you blend it in you want to put enough on that it’s almost like when you’re painting a wall and you want to neutralize the color before you put a new coat of paint on.”

Step three: The face pencil

To finish the process, Brown said to apply a concealer on top of The Neutralizer Pencil. She demonstrated with The Face Pencil, applying it directly to the under eyes and blending it in with her fingertip in a tapping motion. “The pencils are amazing” for those into the no-makeup makeup look.

“I recommend that most people have two face pencils: one that matches your skin and one to lighten under the eyes,” Brown explained. “And you could use those interchangeable for different seasons.”

While the product just launched, one editor was lucky enough to try out the pencil early. “I use the shade Light Fair/Pink and it glides on smoothly, has a lovely creamy texture, and neutralizes the (way too) dark circles under my eyes. I love that I can wear it on its own or add a concealer on top,” explains Emily Goldman, Prevention’s deputy editor.
