While no two beauty lovers agree on “perfect” summer nails, no one can deny that a classic red manicure is always in style. Selena Gomez seems to agree.
In fact, the nail polish pioneer and her beloved nail artist Tom Bachik embraced the look’s timeless elegance for this year’s Cannes Film Festival, where she’s embodied Old Hollywood glitz and glamour while simultaneously breaking a few fashion rules throughout the weekend.
“Nothing says Cannes like a Parisian red,” Bachik captioned his latest photo of the Only Murders in the Building star, in which she’s sporting a beautiful, off-the-shoulder, black-and-white Saint Laurent gown and Bulgari necklace; yet another red-carpet slay after a French Riviera–inspired collection of several other showstoppers.
Gomez’s enduring red nails come as no surprise, seeing as she’s literally somehow always on (nail polish) trend: Remember when she resurrected white nail polish from the dead, then single-handedly kickstarted butter yellow mani mania? Exactly.
In this case, several other beauty and fashion experts have noted that red nail polish is having a renaissance of sorts. From red nail theory to making several appearances on the New York Fashion Week runway, the simple yet sophisticated style is back with a bang and then some.
As for how Gomez and Bachik created the perfect—and spring- and summer-weather-friendly—red-nail mani look? Drumroll, please.…
After using Tom Bachik x Tweezerman implements to prep the skin and nails, Bachik painted Gomez’s nails using Essie Gel Couture Rock The Runway, matching her custom Giambattista Valli gown perfectly. Also of note? The polish is only $9 and available at your local drugstore. Score!
Bachik used this shade “to achieve a young, chic, sophisticated look,” explaining that the hue was “perfect for Cannes.” We couldn’t agree more, though we think it’s perfect literally 24/7.
Finally, Bachik topped Gomez’s nails off with Essie’s Top Coat and On-A-Roll Cuticle Oil “for a high shine finish, sending Gomez off to the red-carpet after a luxurious hand massage using Rare Beauty’s Find Comfort Hydrating Hand Cream.” Honestly, we love the A-list collab.
If you were on the fence about the enduring glamour of classic red nails, hopefully Selena Gomez—and her drugstore polish of choice—have you reconsidering!
