People in stitches as woman mocks ‘summer’ nail trend with gross ‘shellac’

There’s something a little fishy about the latest ‘summer’ nail trend taking the internet by storm.

Whether you prefer a simple gel manicure or a full set of acrylics, Brits are stepping up their nail game as 3D designs have propelled back into the mainstream. Think stick-on gems, chunky charms and diamantes – a homage to our hectic noughties zeitgeist when the mantra ‘the more the better’ fit snug like a glove.

TikTok has slowly become inundated with gauche nail art – from 3D fruit to stick-out butterflies made from layer after layer of acrylic. However, it seems that some have taken the trend a little too far…

User The Crazy Family Noo showed off their new claws, after sticking a bunch of prawn heads onto their nails. Yes, you read that right… Captioned “New summer nails”, a plate of de-headed shrimp can be seen on the plate in the background – while the hand model proudly shows off her ocean-inspired set.

At the time of writing, the video attracted more than 131,000 likes and thousands of comments. While some were grossed out about the gross ‘shellac’ – others couldn’t help but laugh.

Thousands of viewers tagged their friends in the comments section, many replying with swathes of laughing emojis. “New nails,” one person joked.

Another quipped: “Slay.” While a third added: “Brother… Ugh. What’s that brother?” referencing a viral TikTok soundbite of Mohamed Hoblos in 2019. A fourth joked: “I want to get my nails done like this, okay?”
