Arch Manning has the most famous last name in college football, but he is not the only one. Manning’s Texas Longhorns will face Louisiana Monroe on Saturday, and its quarterback has a unique name. General Booty, a redshirt junior and transfer from Oklahoma, will play opposite Manning this week.
In 1993, they both had an uncle who was a top quarterback recruit. Arch’s uncle Peyton is well known for having one of the most prolific NFL careers by a quarterback. However, fewer will know about General’s uncle Josh Booty.
Josh was heavily recruited as a quarterback but decided to go pro in baseball after he was drafted fifth overall in the 1994 MLB draft. After a short professional baseball career, Josh went to college and played quarterback for LSU.

The connection goes deeper though, as both of these uncles had younger brothers who had great college careers. Peyton’s younger brother Eli was a star at Ole Miss and went on to win two Super Bowls in the NFL. Josh’s brother John played under Arch Manning’s current coach Steve Sarkisian at USC.
Another layer to the connection is that both of their grandfathers were quarterbacks in the Southeastern Conference. Archie Manning played at Ole Miss, and Johnny Booty played at Mississippi State.
Interestingly, although both players come from families of successful quarterbacks, both of their fathers were outliers. They were both wide receivers.
General Booty speaks about Arch Manning ahead of this week’s matchup
While it is fun to look at the connection between these two players, General Booty knows his team has a tough game this week against Texas. He commented on Arch Manning and Texas in media availability this week. He said:
“With Arch getting his first start, and now Texas moving up to number one this week, we know there’s gonna be a lot of people watching. We’re all excited to play on that stage. no one’s really expcting us to win or even put up much of a fight. Obviously, Texas is a great test to see how far we’ve come. We’re gonna let it all loose. We’ve got nothing to lose.”
While Manning took over the starting job last week after Quinn Ewers went down with an injury, General Booty has been the starter all season. He has led the Warhawks to a 2-0 record after getting wins over Jackson State and UAB.
