After its debut in September 2024, Warhammers 40k: Space Marine 2 became a huge success. However, unlike the rest of the developers, Saber Interactive hasn’t rested on its laurels and has brought various updates to the game that keep gamers coming back to this live-service title.
One of the core aspects of Space Marine 2 is the Warhammer 40k lore it brings us to. While it’s pretty thrilling to witness Titus and his squad steamrolling their enemies, once you take a look at one of the most tragic lore points in the franchise, you’ll instantly want to rebel and fight back against the Imperium.
A Thousand Sons novel will make you question Imperium in Space Marine 2
If you’re unaware, A Thousand Sons is a novel by Graham McNeill in the iconic Horus Heresy series of Warhammer 40k. This novel unravels the tragic story of Thousand Sons Legion and their Primarch, Magnus the Red, during the events of Horus Heresy.
McNeill gives us a deep dive into Magnus’ character. He’s a gifted Primarch who has incredible abilities and is desperate for knowledge. Even though he is loyal to the Emperor, his mission to understand the Warp ultimately leads to his downfall.
Magnus tries to warn against Horus Hersey’s threat but ends up getting punished by the Emperor. Under the order from the Emperor, Space Wolves are sent to destroy the Thousand of Sons. Ultimately, Magnus aligns with the Chaos God of Change to save his Legion.

In Space Marine 2, Magnus stands as the key antagonist who’s linked to Chaos. He’s a force to be reckoned with as he leads the Thousand Sons in their war against the forces of Imperium. While the game might make you think that he and his Legion are corrupted, they’ve actually done nothing wrong.
Magnus and his Legion are simply victims of a tragic situation that led to betrayal. Their spiral wasn’t their own fault, as it was the Emperor who created such tension. After reading the story of Thousand Sons, anyone would feel bad fighting the Legion because it feels like punishing a wronged group.
Space Marine 2 might have a big surprising coming in 2025
Recently, developer Saber Interactive explained its plans for the future of Space Marine 2. Immediately, players noticed that the post ended with a GIF of two Space Marines doing a handshake emote.
Gamers believe that Saber is teasing an upcoming update that will introduce two-player emotes. This will allow players to celebrate with their fellow Space Marines outside combat. Emotes have been a day-one request in the title since players can only communicate using voice lines, which feels quite restrictive.
Wait… did the devs just tease 2-player emotes?

It’s crucial to keep in mind that this entire speculation is based on a GIF from a blog post. Saber still hasn’t confirmed anything yet. Even if emotes don’t make it to the game, 2025 will be a big year for Space Marine 2.
It’s confirmed that we’ll see new Operations, enemies, Battle Barge expansion, and much more in future updates. While it’s frustrating that we don’t have any exact dates for these updates, Saber has been consistent with its content additions, so hopefully, gamers won’t have to wait long.
With that said, what would you like to see in future updates for Space Marine 2? Let us know in the comments below.
