The world of capital b Beauty can certainly be intimidating, but this makeup artist, entrepreneur and TikTok sensation is pure play, getting his impressive roster of clients buffed, brushed and snatched for every type of occasion, never forgetting to apply a heavy foundation of fun.
Curious to learn his tips, tricks, and which looks he’d whip up for every type of New York night out?
So, what brought you into the world of beauty?
I’ve always believed in creating something beautiful and it was truly the women in my life
who empowered me to pursue my dreams and to even begin experimenting with makeup.
I started my makeup journey working at M.A.C in Arizona. After about a year, I decided to move to LA and work as a freelance makeup artist. I started posting my work on social media and my career really took off. I am where I am today because of all the amazing, strong women in my life who inspire me every day. One of my very first clients was my incredible co-founder, Rima Minasyan, and together we created this brand that I hope empowers everyone everywhere to feel confident in their own skin.
You’ve truly worked with everyone, who are some of your favorite starlets of the moment?
Thank you! I truly love everyone I work with. Recently, Alix Earle and Karol G have been
putting together major looks. They are both beautiful inside and out and I always have so
much fun doing their makeup.
Who are some of your favorite beauty influencers to follow?
I love spending time learning on TikTok. I feel like my entire feed is makeup so I confidently can say I see it all. A few people I’m loving right now are Alix Earle, Monet Mcmicheals, Eloise Dufka, Kensington, Glamzilla and Bretman Rock just to name a few! I could go on forever.
Do you ever learn cool skills or hacks from TikTok?
I’ve learned so much from TikTok and use it as a platform to share all I know too. It is a
great reminder that makeup is about having fun, trying new techniques and that you’re
constantly learning.
What product does everyone need to carry on a night out, no matter how small their bag?
My Major Volume Plumping Lip Gloss! It’s so small and easy to carry, even in tiny purses, and instantly plumps and softens lips. It’s the perfect touch-up product to carry with you on a night out to bring your look to the next level.
How long should someone realistically take to get ready for the day?
As much time as they need. I think it’s important for someone to feel confident before conquering their day so whether they need 1 hour or 5 minutes to feel ready, they should take as much time as they need.
What’s the ultimate New York makeup look?
I think the ultimate New York makeup look is one that feels lived in and minimal effort because everyone is always on-the-go in the city. I think a monochromatic look like the current “Latte Makeup” trend is a great example. Using my Major Sculpt Creme Contour &Powder Bronzer Duo and Major Dimension Eyeshadow Palette, I’ll usually go for a matte brown smokey eye paired with sculpted, bronzed cheeks with a hint of blush. For the lips, I go for a brown liner a few shades darker than the complexion to sculpt the lips and a nude lip creme to highlight the center of the lips.
Any fun trends you love in particular at the moment?
My favorite fall makeup trend for this year is the Bitten Berry look. Like the Latte Makeup
trend, it’s a monochromatic look that uses rich, wine and berry tones. This is inspired by our new shade of Major Headlines Crème & Powder Blush Duo in She’s Wanted. I love layering the creme on top of the powder on the cheeks and dabbing the creme into the center of the lips for a stained effect.
Favorite spot to shop for makeup in the city?
Definitely Sephora! The SoHo Sephora location is one of the most iconic places to shop for
makeup in the city because it’s always so well-stocked and because of the area it’s in – people dream about SoHo in NYC!
Great tricks for covering a blemish or spot?
The best way to cover a blemish is first applying a thin layer of the cream complexion
product to cover the spot, and then adding a thin dusting of powder on top and repeat until
you have the desired amount of coverage. Light, thin layers will prevent the spot from
looking cakey, and will help prolong its lasting power on the skin!
What are your biggest makeup pet peeves?
One of my biggest makeup pet peeves is when someone tries to convince you that there’s a
right or wrong way to apply makeup or wear makeup. There is no one perfect shade of
blush, eyeshadow, lipstick, bronzer for each person. It’s so much more important that the
person wearing those products feels confident and feels like themselves. There is no right
or wrong in makeup – it’s all about having fun and feeling good about it.
How does one go about finding their perfect lip shade?
I don’t think there are techniques or tips on finding the perfect lip shade – I think if you feel
beautiful and confident, then it’s the perfect shade for you. It’s all about how you feel when
you wear the lip shade.
What are you most excited for next?
I’m most excited about the recent launch of my Major Dimensions III Matte Eyeshadow Palette! It’s the first time my brand is launching an all-matte eyeshadow palette. You get cream and powder shadow in one palette. I’m so proud of what we designed. These velvety eyeshadows blend warm and cool nudes for the ultimate versatility of looks.
What would be the look for a Saturday afternoon brunch uptown at The Mark?
I would go for a heavier blush look, using one of my new Major Headlines Crème & Powder Blush Duos. I would layer the powder blush on the skin and use a beauty blender to bounce the crème formula on top for a glow that looks like it’s coming from within.
What would be the look for a late night dance session downtown at The Nines?
Sultry eyes that look lived in, with a glossy nude lip and a hint of color on the cheeks.
