Best & Worst: Saudi star Hala Abdallah talks unexpected fashion

DUBAI: The Saudi model, influencer and founder of fine jewelry label Ofa talks fashion, communication and journaling in our best and worst series.

Best accessory for a little black dress?

Diamonds. I love the freedom a black dress gives me, so I love to wear colorful stones with it.

Worst accessory for a little black dress?

I don’t think there is a wrong way of accessorizing a little black dress. Maybe to not accessorize at all!

Best fashion trend of 2023?

Riding boots. They’re not very popular yet, but I caught it early because I’m into this trend.

Worst fashion trend of 2023?

The super-miniskirts. I thought it was going to end last year, but they’re still going on.

Best advice you’ve ever been given?

Explain what you want in a way that you get exactly what you expect, so no one can say, “We didn’t know.” This way the delivery should be exactly your expectation.

Worst advice you’ve ever been given?

Any advice that’s powered by personal feelings because it sounds like it’s based on opinion or coming from personal trauma.

Best book you’ve ever read?

Eckhart Tolle’s “The Power of Now,” because it taught me to live in the moment. I also love “The Artist’s Way” by Julia Cameron, because it taught me to unleash my creativity.

Worst book you’ve ever read?

I’d rather not say — I think it’s a matter of opinion and what you’re living through at the time.

Best thing to do when you’re feeling low?

Sports. They release stress and instantly change your mood. If you do the work, it’ll make you feel better.

Worst thing to do when you’re feeling good?

Being superstitious; meaning thinking that something bad is on the way. Another one is comparing your happiness to somebody else’s happiness.

Best subject at school?

Arts and crafts was my favorite class. It was the most fun and I was the best at it.

Worst subject at school?

That was definitely chemistry. I had no chemistry with chemistry.

Best thing to do to ensure you have a productive day?

Wake up early and journal. I like to write down everything I want to do that day.

Worst thing to do when you’re trying to have a productive day?

Get up late. The peak of your concentration is in the morning and when you wake up late, it feels like you’re trying to catch up all day.
