Bianca Andreescu is set to make her Olympic debut at the upcoming Summer Games in Paris, France. Ahead of the tournament, the Canadian is preparing herself and recently flaunted her new fingernails, adorning Canada-themed nail paint.
Andreescu was unable to make her maiden Olympics appearance at Tokyo 2020 due to injuries. However, she will get her chance to accomplish a major career milestone at the games in Paris, set to begin on July 26. The former US Open champion will be joined by Leylah Fernandez, Gabriela Dabrowski, Milos Raonic, and Felix Auger-Aliassime in Team Canada’s tennis contingent.
Andreescu, who has been granted the singles main draw entry at the Olympics via protected ranking, is gearing up for the tournament with consistent action on the WTA Tour in the past few weeks. She recently shared a photo on Instagram featuring Canada-themed nail art done on her fingers, showcasing the red and white colors, in the spirit of the upcoming games.
Bianca Andreescu, Leylah Fernandez, Milos Raonic, and Felix Auger-Aliassime will compete in singles. In doubles action, Raonic and Auger-Aliassime will join forces, while Fernandez will partner with Gabriela Dabrowski.
Bianca Andreescu last played at Wimbledon Championships 2024
Bianca Andreescu has consistently struggled with injuries since her breakout 2019 season, during which she won two WTA 1000 titles (Indian Wells and Toronto) and her maiden Grand Slam title at the US Open. She most recently suffered a back injury in August 2023, and rehabilitation kept her on the sidelines for nine months.
The former World No. 4 returned to action in late May 2024 at the French Open and hit the ground running right from the get-go. She entered the clay slam via protected ranking and defeated Sara Sorribes Tormo and No. 23 Anna Kalinskaya before losing to eventual runner-up and No. 12 seed Jasmine Paolini in the third round.
Andreescu kicked off her grass-court swing by reaching her first WTA Tour final in two years at the Libema Open in ‘s-Hertogenbosch in the Netherlands. The 24-year-old bettered Eva Vedder, Yue Yuan, Naomi Osaka, and Dalma Galfi before finishing runner-up to No. 2 seed Liudmila Samsonova.
This was followed by a first-round exit at the Bad Homburg Open. At the 2024 Wimbledon Championships, Andreescu registered straight-set wins over Jaqueline Crisitan and No. 26 seed Linda Noskova. Her run was stopped by eventual runner-up and No. 7 seed Jasmine Paolini.
