#BlackGirlsRock: The 2024 BET Awards Female Winners

The 2024 BET Awards were nothing short of excellent! The award show was full of exciting performances, creative fashion, and Black girl excellence. Although men were rightfully recognized, the 2024 BET Awards female winners stole the show!

From Victoria Monét to Megan Thee Stallion, the BET Awards performances were stacked with the industry’s leading Black women. Usher was the Lifetime Achievement Award recipient, and the award show honored him with a nearly all-Black-woman tribute — with an appearance from Childish Gambino. It’s safe to say that the tribute has already been certified iconic! 

Women did not only dominate in performances, but many of them walked away with awards for their contributions throughout the year. In case you missed it, here are the 2024 BET Awards female winners!

1. SZA – Best Female Pop/R&B Artist

Although she could not attend the 2024 BET Awards, SZA was honored with the Best Female Pop/R&B award. Rightfully earned, the singer’s sophomore album, “SOS,” was considered one of the best albums of 2023. She was also nominated in four other categories: Best Collaboration, Video of the Year, Viewers Choice Award, and the BET HER Award.

2. Nicki Minaj -Best Female Hip-Hop Artist

Nicki Minaj was also absent from the 2024 BET Awards. However, she led the 2024 BET Awards female winners in nominations with a total of six. She scored a win in the Best Female Hip-Hop Artist category, beating out strong contenders Megan Thee Stallion and Latto.

3. Victoria Monét – Video of the Year & BET HER

Victoria Monét has had a big year and an even bigger night at this year’s BET Awards! The singer had two powerful performances, was nominated for five categories, and walked away with two. She won the Video of the Year Award for her hit song, “On My Mama.” During her acceptance speech, she gave flowers to Sean Bankhead, who has choreographed many videos and performances for the mother of one. Monét was also honored with the BET HER Award.

4. Tyla – Best New Artist & Best International Act

After her song “Water” became a hit, Tyla has been racking up accolades. The South African singer received her first Grammy in February 2024 for Best African Music Performance. At the 2024 BET Awards, she was awarded Best New Artist and Best International Act.

5. Tems – Best Gospel/Inspirational Song

Since her debut in 2020, Tems has been a top girl in the music industry. She has been nominated for four Grammy’s and won her first in 2023. The BET Awards also honored her with several awards nominations in 2022. In 2024, she walked away with the Dr. Bobby Jones Best Gospel/Inspirational Song Award for her song “Me & U.”

6. Beyoncé – Viewer’s Choice Awards

Beyoncé could not make an appearance at the 2024 BET Awards. However, that did not keep her from stacking up nominations. The queen was nominated in five categories: Best Female R&B/Hip-Hop Artist, Best Collaboration, BET HER, Best Movie, and Viewer’s Choice. She walked away with the latter for her single, “Texas Hold ‘Em.”

7. Regina King – Best Actress

After taking a hiatus following her son’s death, Regina King is back in the spotlight, showing her strength. In 2024, she starred in “Shirley,” which followed the story of Shirley Chisolm during her run for president. She also directed “Man in Full.” This makes her the rightful winner of Best Actress.

8. Blue Ivy Carter – Young Stars Award

Famous since birth, Blue Ivy Carter has inspired pop culture trends since before she could walk and talk. As she continues to grow, she seemingly follows in her parent’s footsteps in performance. The 12-year-old became a Grammy Award winner in 2021 for her collaboration with her mother, Beyoncé, on the track “Brown Skin Girl.” Now, she is a BET Young Stars recipient.

9. Angel Reese – Sportswoman of the Year

Although she often receives unwarranted backlash, the BET Awards honored Angel Reese with Sportswoman of the Year. The WNBA has spent many years on the backburner due to people’s misconceptions about women’s basketball. However, the Chi-Town Barbie, formerly the Bayou Barbie, has brought a fresh perspective to the sport, making her a clear winner.

One thing is for certain, two things are for sure: Black women will always be excellent! The world may not see the true value, but these 2024 BET Awards female winners defy the odds time and time again!
