Dive Insight:
The partnership is “aimed at democratizing the luxury goods market” and seeks to “promote sustainability and circularity,” per the release.
“We are delighted to partner with Rebag, an established leader in the luxury resale space, to meet customer needs with this curated addition to our assortment,” Jennifer Jones, Bloomingdale’s senior vice president and general merchandise manager of women’s accessories, said in the release. “The strategic partnership brings a new set of ultra-luxury brands to Bloomingdale’s, while providing access to the finest pre-owned luxury items, enabling a full circular experience.”
Custom Rebag concession shops will be located on the accessories floors of the five select Bloomingdale’s brick-and-mortar locations, per the release. Rebag will also use its proprietary AI tool, Clair, “to determine fair item values and offer fast quotes and payouts” to customers wishing to resell their pre-owned goods at the stores.
“We are thrilled to join forces with Bloomingdale’s, a name synonymous with luxury and quality,” Charles Gorra, Rebag’s CEO and founder, said in the release. “This partnership epitomizes our vision of the complementary relationship between first-hand and second-hand luxury. By bringing Rebag’s expertise in sourcing and vetting luxury goods to Bloomingdale’s discerning clientele, we are setting a new standard in the luxury retail experience.”
Items bought and sold via the Rebag collaboration with Bloomingdale’s will be limited to “select ultra high-end pieces,” per the release. Rebag is also planning to work with store management and staff at Bloomingdale’s “to integrate the Rebag buying and selling experience into Bloomingdale’s customer journey.”
More than 70% of consumers worldwide plan to buy used goods in 2024, according to an eBay 2024 Recommerce Report taken between March and April. An additional 86% of shoppers said they bought or sold a pre-owned item in the 12 months prior to taking the survey.
Meanwhile, digitally native reseller Rebag is expanding its reach.
The privately-owned company launched a membership program earlier this year and currently has three retail locations in New York, Florida and California.
