Blotter: Caller said His Friend Was Shot While Getting Haircut

The police blotter is published to give readers an abridged look at criminal activity in their community and neighborhood. It is simply an illustration of what local law enforcement, funded by taxpayers, must deal with daily throughout the Española Valley.

Española Police officers, Ohkay Owingeh Tribal Police, Rio Arriba County Sheriff’s deputies or State Police responded to the following calls:  

 

  Truck plows through fence

July 17

  2:48 a.m. A Calle Chacoma Vista caller said they heard three shots coming from Calle Gallegos.

  3:01 a.m. A caller reported hearing a lot of yelling and screaming near Valley Superette.

  5:14 a.m. A Sunset Drive caller heard a pop and saw a big spark on a power pole.

  7:29 a.m. A North Central Solid Waste caller reported a welding truck was stolen from the yard.

  7:46 a.m. A Camino Arbolera caller said a catalytic converter was stolen.

  10:12 a.m. A Walmart caller requested that a man be trespassed for yelling at customers.

  11:13 a.m. A Las Lomas Apartments employee said a woman has been harassing him and he wants to speak with an officer.

  11:37 a.m. A Calle de Pajarito caller reported his basketball hoop was taken.

  11:47 a.m. A Walmart caller said their car was stolen while they were in the store.

  12:19 p.m. A Methadone Clinic caller reported two patients are refusing to leave the parking lot.

  1:02 p.m. A report was filed at the Rio Arriba Sheriff’s Office for a stolen poly cart.

  1:15 p.m. A North Riverside Drive caller wants to file a report for fraud.

  3:33 p.m. A West Winesap Drive caller wants to file a report for a burglary after the fact. She returned from work to find her childrens’ Nintendo Switch, games and accessories gone.

  3:49 p.m. An Alcalde caller said their catalytic converter was stolen.

  3:57 p.m. An Alcalde caller reported a truck wrecked into his fence and fled.

  4:36 p.m. An Allsups caller said a man who’s been trespassed refuses to leave.

  5:26 p.m. An Española Elementary caller reported seeing smoke and flames coming from a power line that hit a tree.

  6:48 p.m. A caller requested a welfare check on a driver in a car, who is slumped over at Speedway.

  7:08 p.m. A Paseo de Paulina caller requested a welfare check on a man in a car who got undressed and got in the backseat.

  8:09 p.m. An Allsups caller wants a man removed from the area. He is behind the building and has a shopping cart with a desk in it.

  8:14 p.m. An Abiquiú caller reported hearing blasting in the area.

  9:06 p.m. A Paseo de Paulina caller said his friend was getting a haircut when someone came in and shot him.

  9:13 p.m. An Allsups caller reported a man who’s been trespassed threatened them.

  11:37 p.m. A Calle Canuto caller said someone broke into his house.

 

  Woman mistaken for drug dealer

July 18

  12:07 a.m. A Speedway caller reported six juveniles are outside, fighting and the caller heard a gunshot, so they locked the door.

  9:09 a.m. A caller said her father and mother are traveling from Hopewell Lake and her father is having a heart attack or a stroke. A careflight was called, then canceled and the Office of the Medical Investigator was called, instead.

  9:33 am. A County Road 101 in Chimayó caller reported there are three dogs outside of her yard.

  10:05 a.m. A caller said two men are fighting across from the old Henry Valencia building.

  10:13 a.m. A Brown Street caller thinks a 22-year-old woman is trying to commit suicide. The caller  saw the woman take pills and now she won’t come out of the bathroom.

  12:08 p.m. A Walmart caller reported a woman pepper sprayed a security guard.

  12:13 p.m. A Bruce Rael Office caller said a man is passed out in front of the door. The caller said the man has done this before and has thrown rocks at employees.

  12:47 p.m. A caller reported a truck near the old Angelina’s restaurant is on fire and the back of it is engulfed. 

  1:06 p.m. A Calle Chamisal caller said a man is passed out.

  1:08 p.m. A Calle La Tierra caller reported some loose dogs from Valley Estates are coming to her house, fighting with her cats and eating their food.

  1:42 p.m. A Las Lomas Apartments caller said a man and woman are propped against the fence across from El Parasol and might be doing drugs.

  2:05 p.m. A PetSense caller reported two people behind the store are in a cardboard box.

  3:03 p.m. A Vista del Rio Apartments caller said a 38-year-old woman was beaten about an hour ago and she’s feeling all-over body pain and can’t swallow water.

  3:12 p.m. A Lovin’ Oven caller reported a 16-year-old girl got into her car, thinking she was a drug dealer selling fentanyl pills. The caller said the girl told her that her mother is inside the bakery.

  4:10 p.m.  An Ohkay Express Mart caller reported a person is smoking drugs in the parking lot and throwing trash all over.

  5:01 p.m. A man was pulled over in El Rito and there was a 14-year-old girl with him who was hallucinating and hid in a bush.

  5:46 p.m. A caller reported an RV has been parked behind the trees near Wells Fargo and they want officers to check it out.

  5:56 p.m. An Allsups caller said a man who broke the windows a couple days ago is back on the property and isn’t supposed to be there.

  7:03 p.m. A Pheasant Lane caller reported someone broke into his shed and a tent and gardening tools were taken.

  6:17 p.m. A Northern New Mexico College in El Rito caller said there’s a broken window on the south side of the campus.

  6:23 p.m. A caller requested a welfare check on a 12-year-old boy sitting on the side of the road near El Paragua.

  6:33 p.m. A caller requested a welfare check on a shirtless man in front of Liberty Tax who’s yelling, jumping around and acting crazy.

  6:38 p.m. A Socorro’s restaurant caller requested an ambulance for a 2-year-old boy who is bleeding from the face, after a dog bit him.

  6:41 p.m. A Center Market caller reported six or seven people are arguing and getting physical in the parking lot.

  6:43 p.m. A Fairview Flowers caller said there are several prescription bottles and uncapped syringes around the business.

  7:20 p.m. A Velarde caller reported a black drone is flying around their property. They said the drone has been flying in the area for 40 years and they see a million of them and have called before.

  7:21 p.m. A Pizza Hut caller said a man took off without paying for his pizza.

  7:23 p.m. A Grove Avenue in Chama caller reported three people are trespassing.

  8:20 p.m. A County Road 86 in Chimayó caller said his neighbors have been burning trash everyday.

  9:30 p.m. A Flower Road in Santa Clara caller reported a woman is very drunk and has been drinking everyday for a couple of weeks. She’s conscious and breathing but not making any sense.

  9:33 p.m. A State Road 110 in El Rito caller said her father-in-law found his brother dead.

  3:03 a.m. A Lowe’s Home Improvement caller reported a man is climbing on the roof and dropping into the flower department to steal.

  3:34 a.m. An Allsups caller said a man and woman are panhandling and bugging customers. 

  6:35 a.m. A La Mesilla caller phoned 911 to say there’s a snake in his yard and wants someone to move it out.

  8:15 a.m. An Alcalde caller reported his neighbors dogs climbed all over his car and scratched it. He got a car cover and the dogs tore it up.

  8:32 a.m. A La Joya Street caller said a man is at their house and they want him removed.

  9:13 a.m. A Nolan Drive in Velarde caller reported two men wearing all black are trying to get into the house. The reporting deputy said the two people told him that they knocked on the windows of the house because they were looking for their cat.

  9:40 a.m. A Valley United Methodist Church caller reported a person threw a rock through a window.

  9:43 a.m. A Lowe’s Home Improvement caller said a man in a truck tried to take an air conditioner.

  10:13 a.m. An officer stopped to warn a man and a woman not to panhandle at the Ohkay Travel Center.

  11:51 a.m. An officer stopped to check on a man who was reported to be drunk, naked and acting inappropriately.

  12:17 p.m. A Sandy Lane caller said someone stole his catalytic converter.

  12:19 p.m. A Hernandez caller reported a 36-year-old man in a wheelchair is unconscious and on the floor.

  12:26 p.m. A caller requested a welfare check on two children whose mother is leaving them alone and doing drugs in front of them.

  1:45 p.m. A caller requested a welfare check on a man on the side of the road in El Rito.

  2:05 p.m. A Camino Cielo Grande caller wants to speak with an animal control officer because some dogs in the area killed his dog yesterday.

  3:20 p.m. An Allsups caller said a man who’s been trespassed is on the property.

  3:22 p.m. A West Jonathan Drive caller reported a man walked off with a hose and a chair from his neighbor’s yard.

  4:36 p.m. An Allsups caller said a man who’s been trespassed is on the property.

  5:45 p.m. A 420 Emporia caller reported a woman is passed out in front of the shop.

  6:03 p.m. A Park and Ride driver said a person is smoking something at the bus stop.

  6:13 p.m. A La Loma Lane caller reported her shed was open when she got home.

  6:33 p.m. A Dixon caller said men were shooting rifles on the side of the road.

  6:47 p.m. An officer stopped to check on a woman sleeping in a vehicle at the Ohkay Eagle Mart.

  7:06 p.m. A caller requested a welfare check on a woman lying by the dumpster at KFC.

  7:22 p.m. A County Road 1 in Hernandez caller said someone is shooting and yelling by the highway.

  7:52 p.m. A Thorton Lane caller reported finding a bullet in his yard.

  8:11 p.m. A Dairy Queen caller said a man is refusing to leave.

  8:13 p.m. A caller reported seeing smoke coming from beneath the Valdez Bridge.

  8:32 p.m. A Walmart caller requested a welfare check on a woman passed out behind the wheel of an SUV. The caller said there’s a small child running around outside the vehicle.

  9:12 p.m. A Coyote caller reported their air conditioner is missing.

  10:05 p.m. A Private Drive 1512 in Hernandez caller said a man tried to run over her.

  10:22 p.m. A Chamita caller reported hearing crying in his backyard. He said he’s scared and wants to get his gun out.

  11:06 p.m. A Western Winds caller said a “punk” that drives an SUV parked right up against his window with his lights on and has been doing this for the past couple of nights.

  11:13 p.m. An officer stopped to check out a fire on East Pueblo Street. He told the person that was burning stuff in a barrel to put out the fire, as there is a no burning policy in the city.

  11:21 p.m. A caller requested a welfare check on a man throwing rocks at cars and jumping into traffic at the bus stop near Allsups.

  11:22 p.m. An Ohkay Owingeh caller said they heard multiple gunshots.

 

  Gangster meeting in the bosque

July 20

  7:40 a.m. A Cook’s Mobile Home Park caller reported three women are doing drugs under a tree.

  11 a.m. A caller requested a welfare check on a 9-year-old child who is allegedly being abused. The caller said it’s been reported to CPS.

  11:11 a.m. Someone went into the Rio Arriba Sheriff’s Office to report a battery on a household member in Hernandez.

  11:15 a.m. A woman went to the Esspañola Police Department to file a report for ID theft.

  11:46 a.m. A caller reported there’s sheetrock in the middle of the road at Fairview Lane and El Llano Road.

  11:55 a.m. A Community School Road caller wants to hurt himself because of his neighbors.

  12:04 p.m. A report was taken at the Española Police Department for stolen copper piping from an air conditioner.

  12:09 p.m. A Habitat for Humanity caller reported a woman was shoplifting and left her purse with needles in it, along with her ID.

  1:36 p.m. A caller saw smoke in the area of Forest Road 144 after a lightning strike.

  1:38 p.m. An O’Reilly’s Auto Parts manager went to the Española Police Department to report that a man tried to make a purchase with a stolen check.

  2:33 p.m. A Calle Serrano caller reported smoke coming from an electrical outlet attached to the house.

  4:41 p.m. A Chamita caller reported his neighbor went to his house and started vomiting. He’s unconscious and it looks like he vomited up blue pills.

  6:07 p.m. A Valdez Park caller said a man is approaching girls and accusing them of screaming for help. No one was screaming and the caller thinks it’s creepy.

  6:38 p.m. An Alcalde caller reported a man is drunk and having suicidal ideations.

  7:08 p.m. A Jackrabbit Trail caller said a 10-year-old boy cut his hand and is fainting.

  7:25 p.m. A North Prince Drive caller wants the area patrolled because he can see a boy riding his bicycle up and down the road and he’s unsupervised.

 

  Woke up to find bullet holes

July 21

  2:05 a.m. A caller said someone is shooting a paintball gun from the area near Kentucky Fried Chicken. 

  7:05 a.m. An EZ-Way Laundry caller requested a welfare check on a woman that has her mouth open in a weird way and is shaking.

  7:18 a.m. A Chacoma Lane caller said a man was drinking and isn’t waking up.

  8:01 a.m. A Treasures of Enchantment caller reported a break-in.

  8:31 a.m. A Private Drive 1001B in Ohkay Owingeh caller reported hearing gunshots while he was sleeping. He said a bullet went into this house and a camper outside has bullet holes in it.

  9:32 a.m. A Jackrabbit Trail caller reported her stepson is doing fentanyl in his truck.

  1:06 p.m. A Lower San Pedro caller said she went to check on her property and the windows were broken.

  1:35 p.m. A State Road 76 in Chimayó caller reported her son is yelling, screaming and getting aggressive with her.

  1:49 p.m. A Calle Redonda caller said two women jumped her.

  2:09 p.m. A County Road 102 in Chimayó caller reported catching a man on his property, trying to break in.

  2:10 p.m. A Rutheron caller said a woman at a campsite doesn’t want a man there.

  2:36 p.m. A caller reported hitting an elk on his way down from Abiquiú.

  2:41 p.m. A Brazos caller wants to file a report for ID theft.

  2:49 p.m. A deputy stopped to check on a man lying on the side of the road in El Rito.

  3:05 p.m. A man went to the Española Police Department to speak with an officer about a package stolen from his front porch.

  3:58 p.m. A Las Lomas Apartments caller said a man showed up at their apartment and began making threats and saying they better watch their back.

  6:35 p.m. A County Road 1 in Hernandez caller reported she’s bipolar and takes medication but is still feeling suicidal.

  8:37 p.m. A caller said a 57-year-old man feels weak and is lying on the sidewalk in front of Dollar General in Española.

  9:52 p.m. A Walgreens caller wants four people dispersed because they are outside near their vehicles, drinking.

  10:21 p.m. A Calle Jose de la Cruz caller reported a vehicle went into a ditch in front of her house.

  10:39 p.m. A Lowe’s Home Improvement caller said two people are stealing.

  11:44 pm. A North McCurdy Road caller reported a 61-year-old man began taking opiates and is now going through withdrawals.

 

  Neighbors don’t like landscaping

July 22

  12:17 a.m. A Calle Vigil caller said an RV is parked on private property and the occupants are refusing to leave.

  2:09 a.m. A Del Taco caller reported someone is trying to break car windows.

  9:34 a.m. A Carr Lane caller reported several people are camping out in tents and vehicles.

  10:10 a.m. A County Road 198 in Abiquiú caller said they were digging on their property and found bones they think might be human.

  11:24 a.m. A Red Hawk Court caller reported a man, woman and child have been sleeping in a car for about a month and refuse to leave.

  1:24 p.m. A Family Dollar in Española caller said a man stole car keys that were behind the counter.

  1:33 p.m. A Maple Avenue in Chama caller reported a man is behind the building, in the alley, and is acting weird.

  2:09 p.m. A Dixon caller said her 97-year-old mom is not responding.  

  2:26 p.m. A Guadalupe Credit Union caller reported a 36-year-old woman is passed out and not breathing.

  3:06 p.m. A North McCurdy Road caller said squatters are near her property, setting up camp.

  3:15 p.m. A caller requested a welfare check on a woman who appears to have been beaten up and is near the Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish.

  4:19 p.m. A stolen vehicle was recovered near Speedway.

  5:48 p.m. A Walgreens caller wants a man who’s causing problems in front of the store, to be removed.

  6:13 p.m. A Center Market caller said a man is being loud, yelling and causing a scene.

  6:30 p.m. A caller requested a welfare check on a woman passed out in a car in front of Speedway.

  8:07 p.m. A Disabilities Claims caller reported people are sleeping in the area in front of her business and leave needles there.

  8:09 p.m. A Pizza 9 caller said four people are fighting outside.

  8:43 p.m. A Private Drive 1702 Tierra Amarilla caller reported the neighbor is shooting a gun and he wants him to stop.

  10:48 p.m. A Hernandez caller said a 13-year-old girl is cutting herself with glass.

  11:10 p.m. A Private Drive 1328 in Española caller reported a man is drunk and he wants him removed.

  3:15 a.m. A caller said a silver sedan drove into the Metro PCS building.

  6:33 a.m. A Fairview Lane caller reported a man is sleeping on the property and goes onto different properties at night, rummaging through things.

  10:53 a.m. An Allsups employee said her supervisor is locked in the bathroom and requesting an ambulance.

  11:31 a.m. A Dollar Tree in Española caller reported a man is outside, under the influence, and they want him removed.

  1:16 p.m. A Calle Flores caller said his wife is “acting crazy” and ripped his shirt.

  1:26 p.m. An Allsups caller reported her ex-husband’s family is at the casino and is harassing her.

  3:35 p.m. A Lucero Center caller said a 2-year-old boy looks wet from urine and like he’s not taken care of.

  3:37 p.m. A Walmart caller reported four people were physically fighting.

  4:30 p.m. An Ohkay Travel Center caller said a man has begun stealing from the store regularly and he returned today.

  4:32 p.m. A caller requested a welfare check on a driver passed out in a car in the middle of the road at Fairview Lane and North Riverside Drive.

  5:03 p.m. A Baptist Church caller said a homeless woman broke into the gate of the church and is trespassing on the property.

  5:15 p.m. A caller requested a welfare check on her daughter in Alcalde. The responding deputy requested an ambulance for a woman going through fentanyl withdrawals.

  5:20 p.m. An Abiquiú Lake caller said people are drinking heavily even though alcohol is not allowed at the lake.

  5:36 p.m. A Walmart caller reported a woman is getting physical with employees.

  6:17 p.m. A child in Chama called 911 and asked for his diaper to be changed.

  7:28 p.m. A Calle Quintana caller reported a man is throwing rocks at people’s houses and  yelling.

  8:03 p.m. A La Mesilla caller said two people are parked at the end of the road and are flying a drone over her property and her neighbor’s property.

  8:15 p.m. A caller reported a man is down and not moving on Calle Rivera.

  8:22 p.m. A Tsigo Bugeh Village caller said their car was stolen a couple hours ago.

  8:51 p.m. A Mykal’s Vapor caller reported a woman is outside and refusing to leave.

  9:02 p.m. An Upper San Pedro Road caller said their house was broken into and their MacBook was stolen.

  9:49 p.m. A South McCurdy Road caller reported there are loud fireworks in the area.
