Gold Coast/Yugambeh based party-starters Bootleg Rascal are begrudgingly returning to their old stomping ground of Sydney/Eora to host a big musical bash this March. Their inaugural ‘Booty Block Party’ event will take over Camperdown’s The Lady Hampshire on Saturday, 16th March, headlined by the titular rascals and packing a stacked local lineup curated by the band themselves (or possibly their management, it’s unclear).
“Inspired by angry phone calls and emails from their management, the band have agreed to actually do something, by booking 13 exciting emerging artists across two stages for a day of family friendly fun,” a press statement divulges.
Bootleg Rascal – ‘Rescue Me’
Among the artists on the lineup are Dante Knows, Lazy Ghost, Jess Reiss, King Ibis, Atlas Franklin Alexander, Sophian, Awa Mbaye, previous Bootleg Rascal collaborator MAXINE and loads more.
Speaking about the motivation behind the event, Bootleg member Jimmy Young explained in a press statement: “We’ve always wanted to put on our own event with a bunch of mad artists, and although the Goldy is our new home, it felt right to us to do the first one right back where the Bootleg Rascal story started… in sh*thole Sydney, dewda.”
He continued: “Can’t wait to hit the Grant Packett’s and share stories of the cost-of-living crisis and unreliable public transport, with a bunch of legends who pay exorbitant rent to slumlords, so they can live on top of each other. Guess we’ll play some tunes too.”
Rad.
On top of the musical action, the event will also come packing DJs, a cake stall, a special beer-and-burger combo and a mysterious ‘Glory Story Hole’ activation that threatens to “leave punters feeling uneasy, but will generate fundraising efforts for charity, with proceeds to be donated to Support Act“.
