BUCKEYE SOUTH Elementary PTO is ringing in the autumn season with its second-annual Fall Festival, set for Oct. 24. Events will take place at the school in Tiltonsville from 5-7 p.m. and will include pumpkin painting, caramel apple decorating, concessions, a costume contest, scavenger hunt, Halloween and fall pictures and a Haunted Hallway. The scavenger hunt and costume contests are free. More public fundraising festivities are being eyed in the future and all proceeds benefit activities for the school’s staff and estimated 320 students during the year.
MARTINS FERRY Area Historic Society is sponsoring a Halloween cemetery walk from 5-7 p.m. Oct. 28 at Walnut Grove Cemetery (Betty Zane cemetery) on North Fourth Street in Martins Ferry. Visitors will be able to meet and hear the stories of: Ebenezer Martin and the founding family of the city; Widow Cottrell, whose husband was killed in the Civil War; Betty Zane, Ohio Valley heroine who lived and was buried in Martins Ferry; John and Hannah Zane, still searching for a peaceful burial; and Simon West, the first doctor to live and work in the city.
UNION LOCAL Rotary Club, (formerly Bethesda-Belmont-Morristown Rotary Club) is sponsoring its 23rd Annual Spaghetti Dinner on Friday at the Union Local Commons, Belmont. Dinners will be available to eat in or carry out from 4-7 p.m. The meal includes spaghetti, meatballs, salad, bread, dessert and a beverage. Tickets are free for ages 5 and under. Tickets can be purchased from club members or at the door. The dinner is prior to the Barnesville vs. Union Local football game and is sponsored by Wilson Funeral Homes and Furniture Store. All proceeds go to community and humanitarian projects.

ALGONQUIN MILL Fall Festival, set for Oct. 13, 14 and 15, offers festival-goers a steam-powered flour mill, pioneer village and homemade foods including apple butter, sauerkraut, cookies and bean soup. Kids can visit the petting zoo, have their faces painted and ride the kiddy train. Live entertainment on stage will include cloggers, bluegrass bands, vocal groups and more. A CAMPFIRE storytelling event is scheduled for 7 p.m. Oct. 19 at Grand Vue Park in Moundsville. Both take place at Shelter 1 (the Zipline Base Camp), beside the Aerial Adventure Park. The featured storyteller is local performer Rich Knoblich, well-known for humorous Appalachian-styled yarns and traditional folktales. Knoblich is sponsored by the Moundsville-Marshall County Public Library. All the material will be family-friendly, so everyone is welcome to share in the tall tales and spooky legends told beside a crackling fire in the Shelter’s hearth.
