Dorothy Booty Wisterman was born March 13, 1938, in the Provencal/ Bellwood community and passed away on December 4, 2024, in West Monroe, at age 86. She was the ninth child born to James and Ina Booty and had nine sisters and one brother. Dorothy was proud of her upbringing and shared many childhood stories of her large family and growing up in the Kisatchie Forest.
In 1958, Dorothy met Jack Wisterman at Texas Eastern. Soon after, they would wed and remain married for the next 33 years until Jack’s death in 1991. Early in their marriage they moved to Ruston, where they raised their five children. Dorothy continued to reside in Ruston until her death.
Dorothy was a devoted wife and mother and cherished her role as a homemaker. She enjoyed hosting and entertaining family and friends and was an active member of her bridge group for over 50 years. She was passionate about God, her children, her grandchildren, gardening, birdwatching, and sewing and quilting.
Dorothy was also an avid traveler and loved to see other places and countries. Following her husband’s death, she and her sister Johnnie travelled to all the countries she and Jack had planned to explore together had he lived to his retirement. Their adventures took them to New Zealand, England, Scotland, Ireland, Wales, Italy, Greece, Alaska, Hawaii, and other places she and her husband had dreamed of going.
Dorothy was an active member of LifeChurch. LA ( South Parkway Church) where she served others in any way she could. She loved to participate in Bible studies and women’s groups at the church, quilting groups, and was always ready to make a casserole or dessert for church functions.
Dorothy is preceded in death by her late husband, Dr. Jack Wisterman; son, Joseph A. Wisterman; parents, James and Ina Booty; eight sisters; and her brother.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Jesse “ Wade” Wisterman and wife Deborah of Choudrant, Steve Wisterman of Seattle, Washington, Kimberly Wisterman Phelps of Las Vegas, Nevada, Rebekah Wisterman Durham and husband Greg of Prairieville, and Sharon Wisterman of Houston, Texas. Affectionately known as “ Granny” to her grandchildren, Dorothy leaves behind Sarah Wisterman of Chicago, Illinois, Hannah Wisterman of Austin, Texas, Luke Wisterman of Choudrant, Jillian Cannon and husband John of Houston, Texas, Graham Phelps of Houston, Texas; and her great grandson, Ronan Cannon of Houston, Texas.
The funeral service was held at 11 a. m. Monday, December 9, 2024, at Life Church.LA with Pastor Chris Witt officiating. Visitation preceded the service from 10-11 a.m. Interment followed at Kilpatrick Memorial Gardens under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Homes of Ruston.
Pallbearers were Matt Wisterman, Terry Wisterman, Luke Wisterman, John Cannon, Graham Phelps, and Kenneth Dean.
