SINGAPORE – Two men allegedly broke into a condominium unit in Club Street on July 28 and stole around $117,000 worth of cash and luxury goods, such as Rolex watches.
On July 30, the men – Rohit Nikchand, 32, and Retna Ashok Retna Sunder, 31 – were charged with housebreaking and theft.
According to the charge sheets, they allegedly entered a unit at Emerald Garden condominium on July 28 at around 2.30am with the intent to commit theft.
They allegedly entered the unit by climbing over an air-conditioning ledge, and wore masks and caps to conceal their appearance when committing the offence.
Two Rolex watches – valued at $23,650 and $19,450 respectively – two sets of diamond earrings, luxury handbags, and around $50,000 in cash were stolen from the unit.
Nikchand and Ashok were arrested on the same day as their alleged offence after they were identified with the help of police cameras and closed-circuit television footage.
Cash amounting to around $41,400, the two luxury watches and five luxury bags were recovered.
A 30-year-man was also arrested on July 28 for the offence of harbouring one of the two men. Police investigations are ongoing against him.
The cases of Nikchand and Ashok will be heard again on Aug 6.
Those convicted of housebreaking and theft may be jailed for up to 10 years and fined.
