LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) – Juneteenth celebrations continue with Jammin’ in Jeff’s tribute to Black women in music.
The city highlighted people like Billie Holiday, Nina Simone and Aretha Franklin among many others and they did it with an all-female lineup.
“We are celebrating Black women and their contributions to our families, the culture and our nation as a whole,” Dustin white, Jeffersonville City Council President, said. “They have played a significant role in all types of different disciplines and professions and this with respect to R&B and hip hop. They made significant contributions and we want to honor that here today.”
Saturday evening featured music from a variety of artists, including the Jayhawks; Sounds of Summer; Grammy-nominated rapper Chika, known for her collaborations with famous artists like Snoop Dogg and Stevie Wonder and was headlined by En Vogue, who have won more MTV Video Music Awards than any other female group and sold more than 28 million records.
