ENTERTAINMENT: Eclectic line-up for Ballina’s October Nights this weekend

THE October Nights music festival takes place in Ballina this weekend, with an eclectic selection of live music on this Saturday and Sunday night, October 28 and 29.
On the programme are female hip-hop artist Celaviedmai, US-born folk singer and genre hopper Peter Broderick, alternative pop crooner Laurie Shaw (whose new album ‘The Neck Of The Woods’ is written especially about Ballina to mark 300 years since the formal establishment of the town), and harpist Alannah Thornburgh and singer-songwriter Siomha.
Since 2007 Peter Broderick has toured the globe both as a solo act and a collaborator with the likes of Tim Burgess (Charlatans), Nils Frahm, Efterklang, Daniel O’Sullivan and a host of other international acts. He recently performed at the sold-out ‘Erased Tapes’ 20th anniversary concert in the National Concert Hall. His latest album – an Arthur Russell inspired collection – was released this month on the renowned Erased Tapes record label.

• All gigs take place in Ballina Arts Centre. For tickets and more information on the acts, see www.octobernights.ie.
