Don’t call Priscilla Block vanilla.
Just the idea was enough to compel Block and her co-writers David Garcia, Jessie Jo Dillon, and Laura Veltz to write a sassy song about how the body-positive singer is anything but boring.
“Good On You,” Block’s smart-mouthed middle finger to an ex who tried to tone her down, is out now.
“When you’re in a relationship with somebody, whether it’s a friendship or a relationship, there’s sometimes people in your life that just want you to be something that you’re not,” Block said. “You get to a point where you’re like, ‘You know what? I like me.’ And so with ‘Good on You,’ it’s such an anthem for girls to be who they are.”
Lyrics include: I wore that dress, acted my best| Hiding my mess with the same perfume| It hurt like hell, finding myself| Like a light bulb lighting up the neon truth| Vanilla ain’t me, it ain’t ever gonna be| It’s plain jane to see that she looks| Good on you, good on you, good on you
The original version has a production edge that feels more relationship-in-the-rearview than it does brokenhearted. Block’s acoustic version of “Good On You” emphasizes the pain that comes with a breakup when someone has made their partner feel they aren’t good enough.
Priscilla Block: “Vanilla Ain’t Me”
But, the song stemmed from Block stating in the writing room that she would never be vanilla.
“I was like, ‘Vanilla ain’t me,” Block said. “And Jessie Joe Dillon was like, ‘Wait, I love that. That needs to be in the song. That was where it started, and we were all just bouncing off ideas. I’ve always said I never want to be vanilla, whatever that means. I’m very loud and out there and all the things. I love to throw on my booty shorts, and I might not be the girl who always has it together. But that’s just me, and that’s the song. There was just so much energy in the room.”
“Good on You” is from Block’s new EP PB2. She co-wrote four of the five songs, including “Good On You,” her current radio single,” and fan favorite, “Hey Jack.”

Block calls PB2 her “new chapter.” She released her debut album, “Welcome to the Block Party,” three years ago, and Block has lived a lot of life since then. She dialed in her sound and knew when she wrote “Hey, Jack” that it was the start of a fresh era.
“‘Hey Jack’ felt elevated,” she explained. “It’s very country. It’s got big guitars, big drums—all the things I love. I knew that that was where this next record was going.”
“Good On You” piggybacks off “Hey Jack,” and Block said that if people have been following her videos, they know she has an important story unfolding.
Hey Jack, There’s a Story Unfolding
“I feel like on this EP, there’s three sides of me,” she said. “There’s a party, sassy, outgoing side of me. There’s a really vulnerable side of me. There’s the country girl. There’s a song for all of them.”
Block wanted the EP to foreshadow what she’s working on creatively.
“It was important for me to throw different vibes on this EP,” she said. “I think I’m getting to a really happy, confident, secure place. Sometimes you have to go through a lot of shit. That’s what this next record is. It’s like getting to the point that I’m at now.”
