More than 275 makers are expected to exhibit their wares at the 19th annual Handmade Arcade Holiday Market on Dec. 1 and 2 at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center Downtown.
“Every year, we work to make the Holiday Market an even better experience for our makers and fans,” Tricia Brancolini-Foley, Handmade Arcade’s executive director, said in a press release. “We were immensely grateful for the success of the 2022 event because it proves how dedicated this community is to supporting independent artists.”
The 2022 event drew 11,000 shoppers and generated nearly $700,000 in revenue for more than 250 vendors, the press release stated.
Peruse thousands of items ranging from upcycled clothing to monster-filled screenprints, crocheted jewelry, luxury handbags, digital illustrations and ceramics.
A virtual catalog will be available on the Handmade Arcade website on Monday, Nov. 20, for a preview of this year’s featured products.
Thirteen youth makers, a Scout troop, makers from Protohaven’s youth maker camp and nine maker classrooms from schools across the region will also be featured in this year’s lineup.
The first group of makers from the BIPOC Maker Accelerator, a program that launched earlier this year in partnership with Sustainible, a woman, minority, and immigrant-owned startup in Pittsburgh. The BIPOC Maker Accelerator uplifts historically underrepresented makers, craftspeople and artists in the region’s maker ecosystem.
“We are always looking for new ways to support our maker community, from supporting and coaching emerging makers on how to participate in a market to ensuring that our event truly represents the diversity of this industry,” said Brancolini-Foley in the release.
Two opportunities for early-bird shopping are available: from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 1, for Friday Night Happy Hour sponsored by Una Biologicals, and from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 2.
Glass-blowing, ceramic throwing, silk screening and blanket crocheting demonstrations, hands-on activities, giveaways, raffles and the Pittsburgh Glass Center’s annual sale will also be featured.
