First And Last: Ryan Trey Admits He Missed A DM From A “Huge” Female Artist

First And Last is a video series that uncovers surprising moments in the lives of our favorite figures in entertainment, music, and more. As the subjects are hit with rapid fire questions — forcing them to think of their earliest to most recent bits on the spot — they give us a genuine look into who and what made them into who they are today.

Ryan Trey joined VIBE for an episode of First And Last, as he was hit with rapid questions that made him think of his earliest to most recent moments in life. From the first time he fell in love, to the last time he visited his hometown of St. Louis, Trey spoke of it all — including the last “crazy DM” he received, which was from a “huge” female artist that he actually read a year later.

“The craziest DM that I do remember checking from a girl … I won’t say her name, but she’s huge right now,” he recalled. “I actually didn’t see it until probably a year later. So when I responded— it was just to work too, but she didn’t respond. But it’s all good though.”

As women have been taking over the airwaves in Hip-Hop and R&B, Trey could be referencing any of the current big names like Ice Spice, Coco Jones, or Lola Brooke — who knows!

The singer and rapper also recalled the first time he met Jordan Ward, whom he collaborated with on “White Crocs.”

“The first time I met Jordan Ward was at a pop-up event for a brand in Los Angeles, and we actually didn’t even know each other until that event,” he said. “This was years ago, probably like three, four years ago. We found out we were both from St. Louis and from there we’ve been cool ever since. And that’s how that record ended up coming about.”

Elsewhere in First And Last, the 24-year-old warmly remembered the moment he knew he “arrived” in the music industry.

“The first time that I experienced the moment that made me feel like I arrived in music, I’d say would be: I went to London for the first time and I was just out there making music recording,” he started. “That was a dope experience for me. It was when I first started making music and I just fell in love with traveling and seeing what artistry could do for you and put you in different places around the world.”
