General Booty is reporting for duty in Monroe, LA.
The former Oklahoma quarterback announced his transfer Wednesday to Louisiana-Monroe via Twitter.
ULM’s newest quarterback Booty spent two seasons at Oklahoma, making two in-game appearances. He appeared in TCU’s rout of the Sooners in 2022 and also fielded snaps in the waning moments of Oklahoma’s 73-0 demolition of Arkansas State in the 2023 opener.
Prior to arriving in Norman, Booty spent one year at the JUCO ranks, dominating at Tyler Junior College in Tyler, TX. He ranked first in the NJCAA in passing yards (3,410) and touchdowns (27), and he has yet to record a passing statistic since his JUCO days.
Booty was a 3-star recruit from Texas high school power Allen High School, which notably produced another Oklahoma quarterback in Kyler Murray. Coming out of high school, ULM was the second FBS school to offer Booty a scholarship, following in the footsteps of Liberty.
The redshirt junior reunites with the Warhawks, although the program is under a different coaching staff now after the hire of former UAB offensive coordinator and interim head coach Bryant Vincent in December. General isn’t the first member of the Booty family to establish ground in Louisiana. His father Josh Booty — a former Cleveland Browns quarterback — grew up in Shreveport and played college football at LSU.
The Warhawks recently completed spring ball with five quarterbacks on the roster, and General’s arrival makes it six. Of the five who participated this spring, Hunter Herring is the only one to throw a pass at the FBS level. Herring led ULM’s double-digit Week 1 comeback over Army last fall and started the Warhawks’ only other victory of the season — a 24-14 win over FCS Lamar in Week 2. He finished the season 16-of-30 with 121 passing yards, one touchdown, zero interceptions, and 68 rushing yards.
Herring suffered a broken clavicle in Week 2 and missed the remainder of the season. With familiarity of the playbook and status as the incumbent starter, Herring is expected to be ULM’s No. 1 quarterback for the time being, but Booty could compete for that spot in fall camp under Vincent and his new coaching staff.
