If you’re looking for a winter manicure that embodies the spirit of the season without screaming ‘ Christmas ’ then we’ve found just the thing for you.
‘Frosty’ pearl designs are the perfect way to incorporate some winter whites into your nail designs without looking too stark, and nail artist Simu of @Simlynail on Instagram gave the perfect easy-to-follow tutorial on how to create the ultimate swirled icy design.
Captioning the video: “Pearly nails for winter? It’s giving ice rink”, Simu showed exactly how she’d created the frosty-looking design, which included both full nails and more subtle French tips, and the good news is it’s surprisingly easy to do at home.
In the video, Simu uses her thumbnail to demonstrate her clever design, first painting her nails in a pale pink base coat before adding a slick of white-toned nail polish that has a pearlescent shine to it.
The exact nail varnish she used is the beetles Gel Polish Pearl White Gel Nail Polish, £7.99 here, although if you’re planning on create plenty of different frosty, pearl-inspired nail art, the SUPWEE Pearl Gel Nail Polish Set, £14.99 here, has six different pearly hues that are perfect for creating a whole host of different designs.
After she applies the pearly polish to her nails, Simu immediately takes the ball end of the Saviland Nail Art Brushes Set, £8.99 here (was £11.99), and, before the nail varnish has dried, swirls the polish into small spirals across the nail which instantly gives it that frosted-over look.
Simu repeats the same process for the frosted French tips, before curing the designs under a UV lamp to make them chip resistant. If you don’t have a gel lamp at home, essie Nail Polish in Pearly White Shimmer, £8.99 here, has an almost identical shimmering icy finish that dries down like normal nail polish without the need for UV lamps.
The frosty, ice rink-inspired look was clearly a big hit amongst her followers, with fans flooding the comments with praise. “These are so dreamy!” wrote one, whilst another said: “So satisfying, I love pearly finishes!” Others even tagged their nail artist in the post, asking for the design at their next appointment.
The post was also shared on footwear brand Public Desire’s Insta account, with more comments saying things like “next nail idea!!!!!” and “Dream!”
We have no doubt frosty manicures are going to be everywhere this winter, so now is the perfect time to get ahead of the trend and try the look out for yourself.
