The relationship between fashion and Hip-Hop have existed for over half a century. From the flashy, flamboyant, cocaine dealer styled fashion, the 80s craze over Kangol and Adidas, to the modern day appeal of vintage. Hip-Hop and Fashion have revolutionized each other through their similar sense of expression.
With New York Fashion Week (NYFW) being in our far rear view at this point, two future stars made their debut appearance at the event. While on the other hand, the other two that appear here are in the process of furthering marriage with hip-hop and fashion by incorporating vintage-styled gear in their music and business endeavors. Two of these names are familiar to Trill Mag (by the way welcome to the three-timers club NOFACESMOOV). While the other two are relatively new. Here are four potential stars in Hip-Hop and Fashion.
Sakari – Rapper, Model, Mom!
We stop within the city limits of Tallahassee, Florida and meet Sakari Taki Baker. An alumna of Alabama State University (shoutout to HBCUs everywhere), she brought in her Masters from Florida State University soon there after. “When I first saw her, I was like daaaaaaamn.” I said in Industry Shakedown Magazine. “I’ve even told her this recently. I mean, how could you not love her? She’s stylish, cool, smart, and really sweet when you get to know her. But above all she’s like Superwoman.”
A part from being a full time mom, Sakari also raps and models. As we said earlier, she ventured to New York City to model in this year’s New York Fashion Week. When asked about where she got her start in modeling, well we have to look back at Alabama State. “You know at every HBCU, you have to cross something.” She said. “Well, I got involved with Elite Modeling. It’s a modeling troupe that is sponsored by Alabama State. Things got started from there.”
Bout Some Racks
Sakari’s summer anthem, “Bout Some Racks,” is a fiery declaration of confidence, ambition, and unapologetic hustle. With a cocky yet captivating flow, Sakari delivers razor-sharp bars over a bass-heavy beat, showcasing her lyrical prowess and undeniable charisma. The track oozes star power, proving she can hold her own alongside today’s top female rappers.
Sakari’s clever wordplay and commanding delivery make “Bout Some Racks” an instant standout, blending the grit of street ambition with the polish of mainstream appeal. Whether she’s flexing her success or doubling down on her grind, her energy is infectious, and her self-assured tone makes it clear she’s in a league of her own.
Perfect for playlists and party vibes, this track is a celebration of chasing the bag and owning your lane—a bold reminder that Sakari is here to stay and ready to dominate the charts.
Brotha Vintage – Us and Them.
Sticking with Florida for a second, we run across another Floridian who also happens to be a Florida State Seminole in the form of Tyler Palmer. Palmer’s brand, known for its curated selection of timeless, high-quality pieces, blends nostalgia with contemporary style, capturing the essence of individuality and sustainability. His eye for distinctive designs and storytelling through clothing has resonated with a broad audience, making “Brotha Vintage” a name synonymous with authenticity.
Building on his success in fashion, Palmer expanded his vision by founding Us & Them, a manufacturing company that bridges the gap between creativity and production. Us & Them focuses primarily on vintage apparel with an emphasis on quality, ethical practices, and supporting emerging brands.
In addition to providing resources for creatives, Palmer continues to inspire by championing sustainable fashion, turning his entrepreneurial journey into a movement that uplifts both style and community impact.
NOFACESMOOV From The Other Side
Once again, we take Trill Mag down to New Orleans where we find actual veterans on this platform who have officially appeared three times. See what I said in the intro about “The Three-Timers Club.” Of course it’s friends of both Industry Shakedown and Trill Mag NOFACESMOOV. Hailing from New Orleans, LA, the pair has steadily built a reputation for their blend of lyricism, hooks, and storytelling. This latest effort showcases their evolution as musicians and their commitment to pushing creative boundaries.
Moreover, The Other Side features standout tracks like “4 MY CAMP,” an anthem for loyalty and brotherhood. “SHAUNDRE,” a heartfelt narrative piece. “LOW SNAP,” a hypnotic banger. And the introspective title track, “THE OTHER SIDE,” which explores themes of growth and triumph.
Adding to the excitement, Juu dropped his solo project, Divine Timez, at the start of the fall. The album is a masterclass in introspection and collaboration, featuring Pennsylvania songstres, Glimpse, on two standout tracks, “Besfren,” and “Daydream.” “Besfren” is an ode to unwavering friendship. While “Daydream” blends ethereal vocals with Juu’s reflective verses, creating a captivating listening experience.
Ultimately, The Other Side and Divine Timez make waves, NOFACESMOOV prove they are artists to watch. Representing New Orleans with undeniable passion, talent, and vision. Fans can expect more innovation and heartfelt storytelling from these rising stars.
Sista E & The Mermaid Brand
Last, but of course not least, we head to the 917 by way of the 901. That’s right. We find ourselves back in New York but to look at a Memphis native. Again, she’s a friend of both Trill Mag and Industry Shakedown, rising star in the Fashion World and we personally refer to her as The Princess of Memphis Ereiyal J. Cartwright.
Known for her vibrant personality and creative designs, Cartwright has been steadily building her brand. The Mermaid Brand, which reflects her bold aesthetic and passion for self-expression. Having had the pleasure of working with her during the summer of 2023, I’ve witnessed firsthand her drive, dedication, and ability to bring fresh ideas to life. Ereiyal is not only a gifted designer but also a proud ambassador for the renowned rap label Paper Route Empire.
Her star power reached new heights in September 2024, when she appeared at New York Fashion Week. This prestigious milestone cemented her place in the industry as a rising designer to watch. With her recent relocation to New York City, Ereiyal has taken her career to the next level, embracing the energy of the Big Apple and positioning herself to bring The Mermaid Brand into the mainstream spotlight.
Her designs, known for their bold colors, fluid lines, and playful yet sophisticated details, are a reflection of her unique personality and artistic flair. Cartwright’s work is more than just fashion; it’s a celebration of individuality and empowerment.
As she continues to break barriers and redefine style, Ereiyal J. Cartwright is poised to become a household name in fashion. With her undeniable talent and the momentum of The Mermaid Brand, the future looks incredibly bright for this designer on the rise.
