After an intense position battle during summer workouts and training camps, the University of Louisiana – Monroe Warhawks are naming their starting quarterbacks. Their pick is a member of a Shreveport football dynasty as well.
General Booty has been named as the starting quarterback for the ULM Warhawks.
Continuing the proud tradition of college quarterback’s produced by the Booty family. Who may be considered the second family of football in Louisiana, behind the Manning Family.
The Booty dynasty can be traced back to General Booty’s grandfather, Johnny. Decades ago, Johnny was an All-American high school quarterback at Shreveport’s Woodlawn High School. He took his talents to Louisiana Tech, Arkansas, and Mississippi State. Then came the next generation of Booty’s, including General’s dad Abram, who played wide receiver at LSU, and landed inside the top 10 in the SEC in receiving stats 4 times.
One of his uncles is John David Booty, who is often considered to be one of the greatest quarterbacks in USC history. He threw for over 5,700 yards and 52 touchdowns in his USC career, and was a Heisman Trophy favorite going into the 2007 season. However a broken finger cost him some games, which ended up leading to losses for USC. He would eventually get drafted by the Minnesota Vikings, and would have a 3 year NFL career.
General Booty’s other uncle is Josh Booty, who has been called one of the greatest high school quarterbacks in history. But Josh Booty went the baseball route first. He spent 5 years in the Florida Marlins organization, even rising to the big league MLB club for a handful of games. After baseball, he returned to the football field and played quarterback for LSU.
Josh Booty would end up starting a few games at LSU under Head Coach Nick Saban. In his LSU career, he threw for 3,951 yards and 24 touchdowns (with 34 interceptions). It was good enough to get him selected in the 6th round of the NFL Draft by the Seattle Seahawks. Though he spent parts of 3 seasons around the NFL, he never saw official game action.
Now, the third generation of Booty’s is General Booty’s generation.
General Booty spent time with Tyler Junior College in Tyler, Texas, where he showed enough talent to get the attention of the Oklahoma program. He transferred there in 2022, and only appeared twice for the Sooners. In 2024, Booty announced he was transferring to ULM, where he has now been named the starter.
In New Orleans, the Manning family has been a football dynasty for decades. Archie Manning isn’t from Louisiana, but settled his family in New Orleans after joining the New Orleans Saints. His son Cooper played his high school football at Isidore Newman High School, where he was an exceptional wide receiver. He committed to Ole Miss, before being diagnosed with spinal stenosis, which ended his career.
Both Peyton and Eli Manning also attended Newman, and went on to prolific college football careers. They continued into the NFL, where both won 2 Super Bowl Championships, and are Hall of Fame caliber players.
There is a third generation of Manning’s in college football right now too. Cooper’s son Arch Manning also went to Newman High School, and was one of the more highly recruited players in recent history. He choose to attend Texas, where he is currently the backup quarterback for the Longhorns.
General Booty’s first start for the ULM Warhawks is currently scheduled for August 29th against Jackson State, at home in Monroe.
