Hyderabad: Rachakonda police arrested a person of an inter-state gang involved in stealing ornaments from jewellery shop staff. The police seized 1.8 kg of gold worth ₹1.2 crores from the accused identified as Sony Thakur. The key suspects, Ali Khan and Aslam, are still at large.
On July 28, Kunal Kotari, sales manager of AD Jewellery in Jaweri Bazar of Mumbai, reported that unidentified individuals had stolen gold ornaments from their staff member while he was transporting them to their branch in a private bus.According to the police, Kotari on July 26 handed over a bag containing 2.1 kg of gold ornaments to his subordinate, Bharath Kumar, to deliver to their AP branch.
Bharath boarded a private bus in Mumbai. When the bus stopped at Dharmojigudem in Choutuppal, Bharath got down to have dinner. “After 20 minutes, when he returned to the bus, he found the gold ornaments missing from the bag. Based on the complaint, we registered a case and started an investigation,” said Rachakonda police commissioner Sudheer Babu.
The police nabbed Sony Thakur in Choutuppal, as he attempted to repeat the crime. During questioning, they learned that the gang followed the victims in a car, waiting for the bus to stop for meals to seize the opportunity for theft. They frequently changed the vehicle’s number plate to evade detection, but police tracked them. The gang members hail from Bhuriyakurva village in Madhya Pradesh.
