Harper’s Bazaar Hosted a Birkenstock Event at Bloomingdale’s

Fall shopping is in full effect, and there’s something exciting happening in Bloomingdale’s shoe department: an exclusive drop of Birkenstocks, only available at Bloomingdales until November. Fresh off the plane from London Fashion Week, I hopped over to the brand’s iconic 59th Street flagship to help celebrate the launch with a cocktail party, styling panel with live models, and shopping, hosted in partnership with Bloomingdale’s, Birkenstock, and Harper’s BAZAAR.

Birkenstock has just released its beloved Arizona style in metallic silver with a new iridescent big buckle, and if Wednesday night’s event forecasted anything, these will be flying off of the shelves at Bloomingdales. (You can see how Bazaar styles them in the September issue, available on newsstands now.)

As part of the event, I spoke with Bloomingdale’s Fashion Director for Accessories and Beauty, Marissa Galante Frank, about all of the Birkenstock styles we’re excited about and how to wear them for fall.

What I love about this collection is that it can be styled for all sorts of women, from the girl on the go taking business meetings downtown to the uptown lady heading to the Met to catch the latest exhibit. They’re also perfect for transitional weather because they play well with different layers, making them appropriate across the seasons.

Maybe my favorite look was the Boston paired with a maxi denim skirt and blazer combination. It’s perfect for daytime into an early evening dinner, with the Boston making it feel effortlessly cool. I would wear this head to toe—full stop. In fact, on Wednesday night I wore the Bostons myself, taking a more dressed-up approach with a black midi dress, gold jewelry, and a studded Khaite belt to break up the look.

The best feature about all of the looks that we styled was that they can fit seamlessly into so many different occasions and still felt elevated. All of women we had in mind throughout were booked and busy—women who do many things, and don’t want to compromise on style or comfort.

After the presentation, we caught up with our guests, toasting with champagne and exchanging stories of our favorite looks of the evening. It was a joy to see all of the customers and friends who attended picking out Birkenstocks that fit their style most.
