More reasonably priced is London brand DeMellier, where handbags are less than $1000 (and each purchase helps fuel DeMellier’s charity scheme, which funds vaccines and medical treatments for children in need). Founded by former Bain & Company consultant Mireia Llusia-Lindh, who honed her luxury skills at Burberry and LVMH, the brand is restrained and cool, without a logo in sight.
Closer to home, Vestirsi is a great option. Founder Monica Tarca offers a wide range of sizes and silhouettes, all made with Italian leather (I use one as my work bag; it is truly excellent). And just over the ditch, New Zealand brand Yu Mei does a roaring trade in classic, elegant bags without names, adornments or anything at all that is unnecessary.
Men looking for a decent bag without frills would do well to turn their eye to Métier, a British luxury brand that specialises in handmade beauties (there is also a women’s range). Crafted with usability front of mind (plenty of zips, secret card spots and so on), Métier’s day and travel bags are a great choice for the man who has everything … and is not looking to add a logo.
