Ice Spice Calls Out Women Rappers Who Pretend To Be Nice

NEWARK, NEW JERSEY – SEPTEMBER 12: Ice Spice attends the 2023 MTV Video Music Awards at Prudential Center on September 12, 2023 in Newark, New Jersey.

Ice Spice is not with the fake love. In a new interview with Variety, the rapper explained how it really is behind the scenes in hip-hop.

“It is a competition at the end of the day. People want to be all ‘I’m a girl’s girl,’ but then behind the scenes being bitches,” Ice Spice told the publication.

While there is a competition amongst the women rappers, she feels it’s what keeps everyone excited to see how many views someone gets on their songs.

Ice Spice’s Charting Accolades

Ice Spice certainly has been making the competition hard for her fellow women rappers and just hip-hop in general. The Bronx rapper landed three Top 10 Billboard Hot 100 hits this year with “Boy’s a Liar Pt. 2” with PinkPantheress and the “Princess Diana” remix featuring Nicki Minaj. The “Princess Diana” remix also made history as it was the first time a song co-billed by two women topped the Hot Rap Songs chart since its inception in 1989. “Barbie World” hit No. 7 on the Hot 100 this year.

She also released her debut EP and her deluxe this year. The EP dropped in January and the deluxe dropped in June.

The tracklist for her deluxe include previously released songs, “In Ha Mood,” “Gangsta Boo” featuring Lil Tjay, “Actin Like A Smoochie,” “Bikini Bottom,” “Princess Diana,” and her breakout hit “Munch.” New additions include “How High?” “Butterfly Ku,” “Princess Diana” remix featuring Nicki Minaj, and bonus track “On The Radar.”

She was also able to work with her mentor, Nicki Minaj, a second time after they worked together in April for the remix of “Princess Diana.” Their collaboration “Barbie World” was featured on the Barbie film soundtrack. The film stars Margot Robbie, Ryan Gosling, Will Ferrel, Simu Liu, Kate McKinnon, Issa Rae, America Ferrera, Michael Cera, and more. Lizzo, Charli XCX, Dua Lipa, Kali, Khalid, PinkPantheress, Ryan Gosling, Tame Impala, the Kid LAROI, and more also contributed to the film’s soundtrack.
