‘Italy nails’ are a top Pinterest trend – here’s how to get the summer mani look

Looking for some inspo for your next mani? The latest nail art trend to try is ‘Italy nails’, a series of pretty, colourful designs inspired by the sun-drenched Mediterranean coast – and it’s perfect for summer.

If, like us, you get a lot of your manicure ideas from Pinterest, a quick browse of the search term on the app will probably bring up a whole host of Italian-inspired nail art snaps into your feed. By this we mean, intricate blue-and-white tile design or tiny yellow lemons or oranges painted on a nude base, taking inspiration from spring’s tutti frutti nail trend – think Dolce & Gabbana’s iconic prints.

Nail art with lemons
Think fruity designs in white, blue and yellow

To get this look in the salon (or at home if you’re a dab hand at nail art), start with a nude base like OPI Nail Polish in Bubble Bath Nude, £14.90; you could also ask for a white French tip if you like. Then either ask your nail tech to draw on little bunches, or slices, of lemons, or a tile-like print, mainly in blue but touches of red and green would suit this look too.

Colours to by if you’re doing this look yourself include Nails.INC Planet Perfect Plant Power Vegan Nail Polish, £9, Rimmel 60 Seconds Super Shine Nail Polish in Danny Boy Blue, £3.99, and OPI Nail Lacquer in Alpine Snow, £7.46.

Townhouse oranges nail art
Townhouse’s Melrose Place nail art design is simple but effective

Alternatively, take in some saved snaps to show your nail tech. Popular salon Townhouse has just launched a new SS24 LA Collection of nail art designs and, while inspired by some of Los Angeles’ most famous areas, we think a few of the designs could definitely be classes as ‘Italy nails’ too.

‘Melrose Place’, above, is simple but striking, featuring orange segments in the corners of the nails, while ‘Fountain Avenue’, pictured at the top of the page, is inspired by intricate blue tiles.

Temu nails
We love this press on set from Temu

Alternatively, one quick and easy way to copy the look is with press-on nails. This set from Temu cost just £1.98 and ticks all the ‘Italy nails boxes’: blue, white and citrus fruit.

Bellissimo!
