While less is more these days when it comes to beauty, Jennifer Lopez is taking a more luxurious approach proposed by Emilie Sanscartier, nail artist and founder of the cult brand Gelcare: “Enhance natural nails, giving them a healthy and shiny look with a subtle shimmering hue”. Not just her, but brands like Chanel are also betting on short milky nails for 2024. Increasingly, women have made it their New Year’s resolution to stop going to the nail salon and go for a professional nail design.
Following in the footsteps of the 6 versions of the French manicure loved by Jennifer Lopez the artist recreates one of her successes, the lip gloss nails. The new update incorporates the shimmering particles that make lip glosses so fashionable. Celebrity manicurist Tom Bachik, who created the trend has dubbed it, the ‘New Years Celestial Shimmer Nude ‘. Below, we analyse what sets this nail art apart from its prdecessors.

Shape: Ballerina manicure
The ballerina manicure was the star at the Venice Film Festival 2023. It gets its name from the shape of traditional ballet tips—straight at the ends and oval on the sides. It’s a manicure that “fits in perfectly with the old money aesthetic. It’s as luxurious as it is discreet,” explains Lara Royo, Brand Manager at Mavala.
Colour: Transparent with shiny mini-particles
The key to this nail trend is to, “choose a very natural and shiny nail colour, as well as taking care of the cuticles and hands, so that they always look perfect”. The natural sheen of the nails remains intact and they look cared for, which is the USP of this trend. But the lacquer is not appreciated until we get close enough, which is why this nail design is not as tiring as its flashier counterparts. Jennifer Lopez first wore it on New Year’s Day and has continued to wear it to this day. Will this be ‘THE JLo’ manicure for 2024? Stay tuned, we’ll find out.
