Jio MAMI Mumbai Film Festival | Priyanka Chopra tells Bhumi Pednekar: ‘When a female-led film doesn’t do well, I feel a collective failure on behalf of all women’

Priyanka Chopra is currently in Mumbai to be a part of the ongoing JIO MAMI Mumbai Film Festival since she’s the chairperson too. In a conversation with Bhumi Pednekar, spoke about her film Fashion and the women-centric films that she has been a part of.

On doing female-centric films, Priyanka said, “At that time, I was told that actresses do female-oriented films only at the end of their career to win National Awards. I was asked why I was doing one now, when I was having a moment. There weren’t many women-led films being made at that time.”

On the failure of women-centric films

When a female-led film doesn’t do well, I feel a collective failure on behalf of all women. I feel like I’ve taken them a few steps back… because there are so few of us who get the opportunity to do this. When a movie works, it works because it has something to say. And if it doesn’t work, it didn’t say what it need to say. So (I) take away the power of making it personal and just move on to the next thing.

What she wore for the event

Priyanka’s graceful ivory saree adorned with floral prints in pink, lavender, brown and green got everyone’s attention. Adding a modern spin to the attire was a sleepless blouse with a sultry V-neck which she carried well. Priyanka completed her look with a chunky choker necklace and a pair of statement rings. Keeping her tresses open, she opted for glam makeup and went for bold red lip color and kohl-laden eyes.

For those unversed, the Citadel actress lives in Los Angeles with her husband and popular singer-actor Nick Jonas. The couple is parents to a beautiful daughter, Malti Marie Chopra Jonas. Priynaka is the chairperson of the Jio MAMI Mumbai Film Festival which is being held from 27 October to 5 November.
